    Hi
I moved into a house that has a dish on the wall and cables coming out of it.
Im thinking of ditching UPC and getting a free to air box or something like that. Can I reuse the old dish and save a few quid?

    Cheers!

Hopefully it's pointing at the right satellites.

So long as the dish is pointing to 28degrees east then it can be used for freesat. However if it is pointed to a foreign dish such as hotbird 13degrees or astra 1 at 19degrees then there is very little of interest in english so you will need to adjust the dish which is easily done.

Is it possible to do the reverse? Point an old Sky dish at the foreign satellites to get Polish or Russian stations?

Yes provided you have a clear line of site from the dish to the satellites carrying those services.

Polish channels are on 13degrees, quite a few free ones.

Russian channels are a little tricker as they are a few on a few other satellites, there is a few on hotbird, astra1 and sirius at 4degrees. There is also a few just come onto 9degrees east.

I have put up a 1.2metre triax dish for the other half to receive the four satellites I have listed above. You can use one large dish to receive a number of different satellites.
