Android Firmware Update from Windows VMWare

    Hi Folks,

    I was wondering if anyone here has managed to update their android firmware from a Windows Virtual Machine?

    From what I can find it would seem that Virtual Box has some issues with USB in that it is not a true representation/crecreation of a USB interface and so doing a firmware update via USB will result in problems. However the latest post I could find regarding that was in 2008 so anyone who could advise me with more up to date info would be much appreciated.

    Sorry my bad, a bit of a rushed typing job forgot to include the pertinent information. I have a HP Pavillion DV9500ea AMD 64bit and I have a Samsung Galaxy S running Android 2.2 Froyo.

    Some may ask why not install Windows onto my laptop and simple then use Kies to update the software. I have tried this however I only have Windows 7 and from my research on the web it appears that everyone is dragging their ass when it comes to 64bit. HP doesn't provide Win7 64bit drivers for my laptop model (thankfully they do provide Vista 64bit ones that work for the most part) Samsung have announced that they do not support Kies on Win7 64bit. I think this is limited to AMD chipsets, a friend has a similar model laptop however his is Intel based and it works with Kies no problem.

    I only have AMD 64bit hardware (both desktop and laptop) so if it is possible to flash the Galaxy S firmware using Kies installed in a virtual machine then I can avoid all this hastle.

    You're probably better off trying to get Odin to work, much better imo but not as 1-step as Kies.

    Odin and Heimdall are potential options however I am not willing to flash my phone using an unsigned ROM and unsupported software. As this void my warranty it is not a viable solution for me.

    If you install VMWare player and install Windows on it, you should be able to connect the phone from the removable devices menu and this works well usually in my opinion
