Galaxy S download mode

I can't get my Galaxy S to download mode. What am I doing wrong?

Vol Down, Home, Power. Keep holding all three and I get the initial screen (Galaxy S, GT-I9000 screen) which flashes on and off. If I release the power button and keep holding the other two it boots normally.

I've tried this with sim and microsd card in and out and while connected and disconnected from the pc.

What the hell am I doing wrong?

I have the phone rooted and backup up and darkys rom is sitting on my laptop itching to be deployed!

Not all phones have the 3 button combo...
Mine hadn't. There is a way to get it alright but I don't have a link anymore. Google '3 button combo fix galaxy s'
IIRC you use Odin + msdos. It's not hard to fix anyway.

Oh, and I'd think twice before flashing Darkys. Much better ROMS out there.....

I just found RazvanG's Download Mode which did the trick and Darkys is on there. It's hard to find comparisons about differents mods - Darkys has good reviews, including a large thread here. What mod are you on and what's better?

Insanity is better. SURFACE is better.

Darkys own forum seems to have a loyal following but they never try anything else. I used to think Darkys was a grand ROM but when I started trying others it became apparent that Darkys was well behind the game. He had a great FROYO ROM though. I think it was v9.2
Not so good anymore. Lots of bugs. It might be fast and snappy after flashing too but it won't be long before it begins to slow on you.
