    http://edition.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/08/12/pennsylvania.judge.sentenced/index.html?hpt=ju_c2
A former Pennsylvania juvenile judge was sentenced to 28 years in prison Thursday after being convicted for a scheme to make millions off unjustly incarcerating young people, court officials said.

Sandy Fonzo's 17-year-old son, Edward Kenzakowski, spent six months in a detention center after Ciavarella sentenced him for possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to Fonzo, her son, who had no prior record, was never able to recover and eventually took his own life.

    What an evil bast*rd.

Saw this on Law and Order SVU. Although the show was keen to point out that the story was not based on any real event.

I have very little of intellectual worth to impart on this occasion but I'd just like to chime in with a scumbag anyway.

Saw that episode. Get a few storylines related to controversial real-life cases in Law and Order. This guy and another judge were featured in Michael Moore's Capitalism

I think an awful lot of their episodes (and CSI ones etc) are based on real cases, they just cant say it for legal reasons

It seems this isn't uncommon then, watching Michael Moore's documentary last night on Capitalism and there were a couple of judges highlighted in it for doing the exact same thing.

There was a news story of a housebound morbidly obese lady who never moved and so the skin became fused to the couch. Fused may be the incorrect term but she was stuck anyway.

Paramedics had to cut her out

Sure enough, Season Three had the same story but of course they wouldn't come out and say this

At least he got jail, here they would set up a tribunal or he be given his huge pension and told to keep his head down.

It'd be hard for such a situation to arise here thankfully. Also I assume he must've pissed off the wrong person at some point in his career given that a plea bargain was arrranged and they went ahead and prosecuted properly instead.

There was a similar story on The Good Wife too, where a judge was being paid to incarcirate young boys to a specific detention centre.

True. Our judges prefer kiddy porn and full pensions. Jail is for the weak.

Strongly disagree. Plenty of opportunity for judges to rifle the system. Judge during the week on the news didn't even swear an oath at the start of a trial.

It's been said many, many times that the leegal system here is a closed loop. The law society of Ireland is basically an old boys club.

I was talking more about about how we don't have slave labour in prisons.

America won't be done until the entire population is in prison. TBH it's one of the (many) reasons I'd never want to live in the place.

Did he take his life in the detention centre?

Although inspired by true events, the following story is fictional....

Apparently it's in the constitution. I do expect judges to have a grasp of that.

Judges aren't required to swear an oath before a trial. They swear it when they take up office. It upsets me when people use incorrect and stupid examples to support their misguided views.
