Just wondered that the other day - how many came to Boards when the forums on Motorweb / Motornet closed down? I'm one....

Im on forum.alfa156.net too, but Motorweb.ie? Isnt that still running? I always thought it to be a Gay Bryne-esque generic fluff piece.

Believe it or not, there was once (late 90's, early noughties) a thriving discussion forum on there - not well moderated though which, as it turns out, apparently was its downfall...

I was on boards and motornet, but on boards first :)

Jeez, how many years ago is it now that motornet just disappeared overnight, Dilbert75? At a guess, more regulars went to octane than to boards. Octane was very, very quiet before the demise of motornet :D

I used to read it a lot and I occasionally posted there, the lack of moderation was the best thing about it :p

Must be close to 10 years, I'm guessing.... doesn't time fly? I briefly browsed Octane but never really settled into it. Seemed to have more of a focus on the cruising set at the time, I thought.

Or maybe a year or two or more less. Sure motors on boards is only around about 10 years :)

I used to be on motornet regularly before it's death. Same user name too.

I was on Motornet, but I don't even remember what I used for a handle. It shut down in Jan 2005, according to this boards thread.

Thinking about it , I think I registered on Octane.ie when motornet shut, with the same user name, which means I was called Pham on motornet.

I was there too, lurking in the long grass. I'd say it was 98-99-ish. Seemed a very small community at the time; internet access and an interest in cars? Simultaneously? In 90's Ireland?
    :P

Was it that recent? Must have been. Back in my Motorweb / Motornet days I was Scrawny, both by name and by nature. How times have changed...:o
