The front wheel on my Giant Bowery suffered from a split rim and nearly killed me. I need to get a replacement wheel. I'm loathe to go to a bricks and mortar Dublin shop to get crap service from a kid so any ideas on where to get one online. Don't even know what to google for.

Track wheels search will find you non QR ones.

Sorry should have specified a front wheel. I just don't want quick release on it.

Yep, track wheels search will find you non QR front wheel. See example above.

I thought I'd be able to get one for 50 euro.

Is the cheapest you can get a replacement non-qr front wheel really 85 quid?? Thats almost as much as my fixie is worth.

I'm sure you could find much cheaper, but most of the online stores are aimed at enthusiasts so their stuff is nearly all branded higher end. Local shop might be best bet after all? Posting from mobile so can't do any more searching...

You could just buy a cheap road wheel and a security skewer or even just swap the axle over to a solid one, but you may have to venture to a shop if you don't know how or have the tools to do that, not ALL shops are terrible you know, there are one or two that are good out there:D

    Eh no.

If someone doesn't know bikes then why are they working in a bike shop.

I have a bolt-on front wheel, 700C. Barely used (less than 100km, I think). Any use to you? PM me, if so.

i think PX have track wheels, although not sure if they sell them as a pair or singly.

How exactly did the rim fail? Was the braking surface worn out?

    I suppose it probably was.

surely track wheels are not suitable for brakes, given that track bikes don't have brakes either?
Why so against a QR one? Presumably the cheapest option would be a cheap qr "normal" wheel and a pitlock?

Very good point, it wasn't a track wheel and I won't replace it with one.

QR and a jubilee clip from the local hardware... as theft proof as a non QR

A lot of track wheels have a braking surface particularly at entry level, certainly the PX ones do.
