Health issues motivate me. Being overweight affected my asthma and eating the foods I shouldn't be eating affected my eczema.

Losing weight is srs bizness. You can't afford to be flaky.

I would disagree. I've lost 1.8kg in 3 weeks from walking regularly, and I haven't changed my diet at all, and it wasn't good to begin with.

for me what makes me want to lose fat is from seeing my stomach bunch up when i sit down, not attractive. i'd like to be able to jog without it being a big deal, but realistically if i get to losing all the fat I want to lose, I won't work much harder, only to keep it off.

Well yeah, regular exercise of course works, I just always remember hearing that eating the right food works better. Combine the two and you're doing well.
I can't manage the food bit yet but at least I am not too unfit.

Globo Gyms phrases worked for me.

"Tired of the same old you? Tired of being out of shape and out of luck with the opposite sex? Tired of being overweight and under-attractive?"

"C'mon down and join the winning team, because here at Globo Gym we're better than you. And we know it!"

Very motivational stuff! No way am I going to let Le Fluer beat me at the Dodgeball championships this season.

Yeah it'd be good obviously to get healthy food-wise too.i just mean it seems very possible without it. And yeah I like my food too much to give it up.

I have lost a good bit of weight recently. I was in a shop one day, looked in the mirror and didnt like what i saw. I lost 10 kilos in a couple of weeks by only eating energy efficient foods, starving myself, hours of jogging, playing football and walking long distances. If you want it bad enough you can loose the weight. I realised after that a lot of people just dont want it enough. If you ever watched the programme called "The biggest loser" you would realise that. Seriously obese people lose vast amounts of weight in the space of a few weeks due to hard work and motivation. Losing weight isnt a hobby or a part time thing. If you really want it, it has to be an obsession. You have to WANT it.

Those rare Instances where "skinny" folk appear the majority? Or the norm and they realize they don't fit in .. those "skinny" jeans?!

When they realize they spent too much time describing leanness as skinny. a surefire indicator

Generally looking disgusting and being unhealthy should be motivation enough to lose weight. After a few weeks you will get into the swing of things and once you get a taste/feeling for good quality food you don't go back to eating processed shíte because you actually feel like crap after eating enough of it. I guess people just get used to that feeling like crap and think it's how you're meant to feel.

Good diet + excercise = better life, fact. It's not as hard to eat healthy as people say either. You can get by cooking in bulk which can cover up to a weeks worth of meals refrigerated if you really want to, so that "i don't have time to cook" excuse don't fly with me sista

Been trying to lose weight for two years - have taken up cycling the 12k to work each day, given up soft drinks and sweets, and I play rugby so I train twice a week. Hasn't done a damn thing to shift any weight, but I've put on a ridiculous amount of muscle instead.

all of the above !!!health ,how i look, sex!if your very overweight u dont feel well (energy ,bloodpressure, heart)u dont like how u look and if u dont like how u look well then ur not going to like anybody else looking at u either and thats when the problems with sex start!!you'd think this is enough to motivate u but u really have to want to loose the weight also....somepeople hide behind weight !!

Having fun. Exercise should be fun. If it isn’t, try a different kind of activity that you enjoy. As long as you’re moving, it’s good for you.

I'm posting this here instead of fitness and health because I want to hear the opinions of the average person not just health enthusiasts.

My friends were talking about weight and a couple of people who lost a lot of weight recently, the conversation then turned into how they always try to lose weight and give up after a couple of days..

So is there anyone who has los a lot of weight or is in the process?
    What motivated you?

For me - when I think about losing weight It's more of an "I want to get fit" thing than an appearance thing

Well, I'm trying and have been for a while. My main motivation, and I know this is going to sound incredibly dumb, is that I want to be able to buy clothes from Dunnes and Penneys.
Neither of them stock my current size, so I mostly shop at Evans and/or online. Essentially, I'm two sizes too big.

Yes, I'm well aware that there should be other reasons for me, health, looks, "feeling good"... but the truth of the matter is, I'm not unhappy, nor particularly unhealthy. I know I'm running a higher risk of becoming unhealthy eventually, but considering that I'm living healthily apart from my weight I'm not too troubled by this (don't drink, don't smoke, don't eat meat, excercise, etc.)
But having more choice in what to wear, and not paying quite as much for it, I have to admit that's my biggest incentive at the moment.

It has to be an overhaul of lifestyle, get into good habits so it doesn't feel like a chore, but a daily routine that you don't have to think about doing after a while.
    Or so I believe.

Also, a good body is made more in the kitchen than the gym, so there's no use rewarding yourself with pies after a workout.

Yeah, its nuts when you see the idea that doing a certain workout is burning the equivelant of that sneaky bit of chocolate so its ok for me to eat the chocolate...

Exercise is key to my weight loss and the adrenaline that it brings ,automatically makes you feel better about yourself. The better you feel ,the better others feel and you're making progress.

I don't think men face the pressure we do re weight.

I've just had a baby so definitely feel the pressure. Women are obsessed with weight. I would say alot of women are in competition with one another. Men don't behave/think like that. I suppose celebrities like Abbey Clancy etc don't help!

Someone on the previous page said they lost a few kg's in a few weeks...about weight falling off etc etc...that's fine until you actually start eating again and the wait will literally pile back on.

You don't need extreme exercise routines to loose weight.

All you need is plenty of liquid parafin and a ton of jacks paper....

I was out jogging around a gaa field when a group of teens shouted, "Lose weight, you fat b*stard".
Theres no winning with some people.
Thats not my motivation by the way. I have none. I just do it.

Men face the same pressures. One of the reasons is what you just said straight afterwards.

You've lost 1.8kg because you went from doing nothing to doing something. If you were eating properly with it, you would have lost more. Simple maths, burn more calories than you take in and it is MUCH easier to not eat 100kcal than it is to burn 100kcal. 6 packs are made in the kitchen.

Also, well done on the 1.8kg - keep up the good work

It was a combination of blood pressure, thighs rubbing, sore feet, my nice clothes not fitting, depression, avoiding seeing my own reflection on shiny surfaces, repulsion at photos of myself, wedding ring getting too tight.... Got tired of feeling that way and from my family history know that strokes and diabetes could be issues in the future.

Joined WeightWatchers last November. Between watching what I eat and walking 6 miles a day getting to and from work I've lost 10% of my starting weight and am nearly half way to where I want to be. It has not been easy - good weeks and bad. Some ladies at work go with me and it's great to have the support. The WW leaders are very encouraging too - they too were overweight once.

Life is not suddenly perfect but the health problems have disappeared and feel better about myself - and no longer scare myself in reflections unless I'm having a bad hair day! Saving a fortune in clothes - older things in boxes fit and can be upcycled.

Main thing for me is to realise there is no quick fix - weight goes on slowly so it will go away slowly!

Battled with my weight my whole life but im in the shape of my life today, still have a target in my head to reach though. Yes the health benefits etc are a motivation but id be lying if vanity didnt play a massive part in me maintaining the way I am. I want to wear nice clothes and get my hole.....nothing wrong with that.
