Offered Internship in Germany can I still get Job Seekers Benefit

    I have been offered a Internship in Germany for 3 / 4 months. Is it still possible that I will receive my Job Seekers Benefit from Ireland, and the additional €50.00 that is offered to participate in the scheme.

    (JB) may be transferred to another EEA member state for up to 13 weeks, if you are looking for work there. You must be getting Jobseeker's Benefit for 4 weeks before you can transfer it to another EEA member state. From 1 May 2010 new EU Regulations came into effect (pdf) which mean that if you apply to transfer your Jobseeker's Benefit, it will be paid directly to you. You will still be required to register with the employment services of the country where you have gone to look for work within a week. You must take form Form U2 (which is replacing Form E303) to the social services of the country you are travelling to. You can get a completed Form U2 from your local social welfare office.

    The internship scheme with the €50 increase is called JobBridge (www.jobbridge.ie). In order to qualify under this scheme, you would have to have found the internship on this website, and there is a lot of criteria laid down for organisations to qualify - for example the organisation must be a legal entity and/or a charity recognised by the Revenue Commissioners (with a CHY number). If the organisation you are doing yours with is abroad, they probably wouldn't meet this.
    Also, bear in mind if you participate in an internship outside of this scheme, you probably won't meet the criteria of being available for full time work (as you are currently tied to another position) and your Jobseeker's claim would be closed.
