Because most of them come from dysfunctional families where there is no consistency in their lives.. dressing in sync with their piers gives them a sense of belonging..

    Cause it's cheap.

    Or easy to steal.

I NEVER wear a tracksuit/runners and certainly wouldn't wear a football or a GAA top! If I did I would feel terribly self conscious and I would be worried that others would assume I am a scumbag!

Edit: Sounds silly reading it back but its reality!
It's not silly really. You want to give a decent impression to people you walk by and meet. I only wear tracksuits if I'm jogging or whatever anyway, always prefer jeans.

Anyway as other people have said, it's not the tracksuit that makes a scumbag, but all scumbags are made in tracksuits.

Not necessarily. A pair of Air Max, an adidas tracksuit pants and a football shirt will set you back over €200.

The white sneakers, tracksuit bottoms tight on the bottom and a zip-up jacket. Why do people willingly choose to dress like this when they know 90% of the people who see them will identify themselves as scumbags without knowing the first thing about them?

Is there some sort of pride being labelled as an undesirable/trouble-maker or do they just simply not care what people think?
Either way why do they all have the same fashion trends when people in other social brackets dress so differently from one another?

When did we start calling them these in Ireland?

There's a difference. You can easily tell it from looking. You should know this even.

They look extra scummy with a striped wool jumper on with their white tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

Tracksuits don't make you a scumbag, acting like a scumbag makes you a scumbag. I wear tracksuit bottoms, runners, football shirts. I also wear band/festival t-shirts, converse/vans, whatever.

I honestly could not give a toss what impressions people out and about get from me if they're going by what I'm wearing.

    What's a scumbag ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,971 ✭✭✭amacca

    the answer is simple...

scumbags for the most part have already shown a marked lack of individuality and invention by becoming scumbags (in many ways the lazy/easy option until they realize they have trapped themselves and there is no way out)

why then is it surprising that when it comes to dressing themselves they just copy the same general format of whatever the other scumbags are wearing...that format being the lazy option when it comes to dressing oneself also I might add + even the semi-intelligent ones don't want to stick out like a sore thumb.........its bad enough being a target for your "associates" as well as competitors

its true of other social groupings that cant think for themselves and prefer to be part of a herd also

d4 twitter boxes etc etc and so on and so forth

anyway its good for us that they wear a uniform......we can avoid/take appropriate action when we meet them + they would be more intelligent and more of a threat if they all dressed differently

Do you believe most people who wear those clothes pay full price for them? Or buy them in a shop?

On a related note, why do scumbags wear so much white? They seem to wear about twice as much of it as the rest of the population - the zip up jackets, tracksuit bottoms, runners etc. Again, is it part of the uniform, or is it just that those awful scobie clothes only come predominantly in white?

Has really put me off the colour.

To make them more conspicuous so that you wet your pants when you see them.

Surely they should be trying to blend in so they are better able to get away with their theiving or whatever they're going into town for though?

i know. it is madness. makes me ever so consious of what i am wearing. say i am shelpping round the house in trakkies and a t-shirt (which is perfectly fine) and then i realize i need to pop to the shops for milk/bread/whatever, i will actually change into a proper pants and take off the trakkies as i don't want someone forming the wrong impression of me cos i popped out in my lazy clothes. :o

Bingo. For you, lazy clothes are temporary, cos you have other sh1t to do in your life. For them lazy clothes are permanent and reflect their lifestyle - lazy as fúck.

Bit of both tbh. If you go into Lifestyle sports/champion, you'll see scobies picking out a whole outfit. Though I've heard from people working in those chains that thief is high, so they might be buying some items from scobies selling door to door.

 It doesn't sound silly at all......it sounds Pathetic! but it's keeping in line with the rest of the usual diatribe posted so far so your in good company

Carry on living your life with this mentality "I would be worried that others would assume" and you'll grow old & miserable regretting it!

p.s. you must look a right sight doing sport activities/gym!

    Jogging Pants - Trakkies
    Trainers - Runners
    T Shirts

 Lazy clothes? really? OMG I've been going to the gym, football & kick boxing in my lazy clothes :o oh the shame ..... I've even had the under 10's team wearing theirs....oh now I do feel silly.

.....Hey! wait a minute  I've been conned, those shops all declare themselves as sports shops and all they're selling is LAZY CLOTHES!!! Bastards!

Your post reflects your mindset , to quote - "lazy as fúck"

oh i too would wear trainers and jogging bottoms if i were going to the gym, out to do exercise *shudder* :o but my 'lazy clothes' do look quite scruffy, i mean they are for lazing round the house, why should they look decent. hence why i would think someone would judge me if i went out looking quite so scruff. you can understand that.

i can tell the difference between someone who wears sporty clothes because they participate in sport and someone who wears trakkies etc all the time just coz

I wear white Runners, Hoodies, Tracksuit pants. Gaa/Soccer/Rugby Jerseys.

I'm not a scumbag. I just like Jerseys. I'm more comfortable in Tracksuit pants. I like the look of the white runners.

Do I care if people think im a scumbag? Nope. Its just sad for them.
