Why do all scumbags dress the same?

The white sneakers, tracksuit bottoms tight on the bottom and a zip-up jacket. Why do people willingly choose to dress like this when they know 90% of the people who see them will identify themselves as scumbags without knowing the first thing about them?

Is there some sort of pride being labelled as an undesirable/trouble-maker or do they just simply not care what people think?
Either way why do they all have the same fashion trends when people in other social brackets dress so differently from one another?

It's like a uniform and they wear it with pride.

the socks tucked into the the trousers aids shop lifting.

Bertie Ahern doesn't dress like that.

A lot of groups will wear the same clothes. Hang around outside Ballsbridge when there's a rugby match on, you'll see a hell of a lot of people wearing very similar clothes.

Or outside a 'distressed' auction on Stephen's Green. Safety in numbers and/or a sheep mentality.

Wearing a rugby shirt to a rugby match isn't exactly what I mean.

Its all about pride, Ive known people like this and they were scum and proud it was like badge of honour for them to be branded a scumbag.

I could never get my head around it,but most of them would rather dress like that and be branded a scumbag rather than to be seen to be "posh".

I'm pretty sure there just dressing like there mates, and some of them are not scummers, just like goths dress like there mates and some of them are scummers too..

As a kid i wore kicker shoes, levi jeans and ben sherman shirts, why, it was meant to be the cool gear to wear and like most i wanted to be cool.

    i liked it anyway

Image/appearance and what others think is not really relevant to them!

Some of them are of the mentality if you dress properly you are gay! or posh!

i know. it is madness. makes me ever so consious of what i am wearing. say i am shelpping round the house in trakkies and a t-shirt (which is perfectly fine) and then i realize i need to pop to the shops for milk/bread/whatever, i will actually change into a proper pants and take off the trakkies as i don't want someone forming the wrong impression of me cos i popped out in my lazy clothes. :o

Eh, what? You mean hipsters don't look like other hipsters, business professionals like other business professionals etc? Eh, yeh, right.

I NEVER wear a tracksuit/runners and certainly wouldn't wear a football or a GAA top! If I did I would feel terribly self conscious and I would be worried that others would assume I am a scumbag!

Edit: Sounds silly reading it back but its reality!

Its so you cant tell them apart.

When someone needs to describe what the scumbag was wearing that doesnt exactly narrow it doown for the Gardai.

They (scumbags) know what they are doing !!!!!

Yeah, they all seem to wear expensive suits and hang around Leinster House.

I'd be more worried if scumbags were fashion conscious

"Alri stori bud, got me new daycent blazer yea wha?"

"Ah ffs man, well clashin' wiv yer levi's"

    "Yea wha?!"

"Ya look like a spare prick bud"

"Here we get a few can ov dutch gold and hit the high street, saw a top dere dat wud well match yer eyes bud"

Wearing runners, tracksuit bottoms and a zip up top doesn't automatically make you a scum bag.

No, true- but how you wear them is usually a good indicator, e.g. the ends of the tracksuit bottoms tucked into white socks, runners being either manky dirty or waaaaay too white (not normal in-between) and a baseball cap perched on your head with the peak up a bit too high.

The hair is usually a giveaway either if they're not wearing a cap- too much gel, that spiky thing with the fringe gelled down, *shudder*

Edit: The walk is usually a good indicator too, in fairness. 10 to 2 legs on them (like hands on a steering wheel, except it's their feet on the ground)

    Yes

In fairness, the clothes aside! You can usually differentiate them from civilised people by their physical appearance, body language, the way the carry themselves etc.

Not all tracksuit and runner wearing people are scumbags but all scumbags wear runners and tracksuits! :D

I kid, some wear suits and ties and have 6 figure salaries.

    Scumbag or Dirtbag or Shnacko.

I believe that scumbags dress like scumbags, to be seen as scumbags. That simple.

They know that a lot of people will give them a 'wide berth', on footpaths. Makes them feel tough. The shnacko uniform might protect you if you happen across a bunch of similarly dressed shnackos. You will not be seen as being an easy target like a bloke in jeans and shirt.

    "GERRRRRUUUUMMMMM lads".

Because most of them come from dysfunctional families where there is no consistency in their lives.. dressing in sync with their piers gives them a sense of belonging..

    Cause it's cheap.
