It's gorgeous. It really suits you. Jays and also RK Bridal are great if they stock a dress that you have tried on in a shop. Congratulations. :)

My daughter got married just under three years. She and the fiance where not long out of college – so funds were scarce.

She adored a dress retailing in Dublin for 2,500 euros – but found the same one on-line in a bankruptcy sale for 200. Minor alterations only required.

Just wanted to say I bought a beautiful satin and lace wedding dress from a Chinese factory on Ebay, custom made to my measurements and it is absolutely stunning and fits like a glove. Not entirely exactly the same as photo but near enough and superbly made, fully lined and boned. Including postage only cost just over €100, fantastic value for money and one very happy bride :D

One of ye mentioned paying customs and VAT on non-EU purchases - can anyone tell me how that works? Do they stop the goods at the airport and ring and ask you to pay over the phone or how does it work?

I'm relatively new to the online shopping thing and have gone a bit mad on eBay buying bridesmaids' jewellery and the like! Some of it is coming from the US and China.

I've also found the perfect dress online for US$179 compared to a similar one I was looking at in a boutique here for over €800 so was thinking of going down that route. It's still 15 months to the wedding so there's plenty of time for alterations / rethinking the whole thing if it's a disaster. :)

From a website about paying customs tax on imported clothing from non EU countries: On clothing from non-EU based suppliers this is what you will pay extra.
    1) Customs Duty. - Customs duty is calculated by Customs on the TOTAL cost of the clothing. They add together the purchase price, + any insurance, + freight costs. On this total figure they charge Customs duties of 12%.
Duty on footwear depends on the material the footwear is made of. It's usually between 9% and 15%
Customs duty does not usually apply to clothes or shoes under €150 total cost.
[/COLOR]2) V.A.T. - After adding the customs duty to the total cost of the clothing, they then add V.A.T.@ 21% on the after Customs duty figure..

When I bought my dress(from China) which cost just over €100, I didn't have to pay any customs duty on it, I've also bought various items from Hong Kong and U.S. without being charged any extra.

Thanks for that! I've put in a jewellery order for about €250 - so I guess that might warrant some charges.

Any info on HOW you pay these duties aslo welcome. :)

You pay at the post office when you collect the item or the psot man when it is delivered.

I once had to pay €20 customs on a tshirt from USA, it was about $30. I rang customs and disputed it, they basically told me get stuffed. When I pointed out that I had bought lots of similar priced items before, with no charge, they said I had been "lucky" the other times.

I have usually got deliveries at work done through our reception, in which case the customs and VAT wasn't charged at delivery time but came as an invoice to my work address. That worked well for me as it gave me the option of how to pay for the customs and opportunity to call the office if I had a query about it.
Every customs charge that's added to your item has a number called a Taric code. If you think the code and desciption for the item are not correct, then look-up what you think it should be, if the %-age they are charging you is higher than it would be if they'd used the right Taric code, then you can call them and get them to re-issue the invoice with the right charges.
That made a 20 euro difference for me when I bought leather boots off a US site and they tried to charge me for textile runners, which came in at a higher %-age of the goods.

I've ordered my dress from Dhgate last week and cant wait for it to arrive. I used the same seller as another boards member.
The seller was available all the time to answer all the questions i had.
I was so nervous ordering it and am also worried that it wont fit. I don't mind getting it altered but i would just hate if it was way to small. Fingers crossed it will work out.

Best of luck - if it helps, I was so nervous as well and mine fits me perfectly. I just need to get some minor alterations on the hem which I'm getting done tonight (hurray!). Let us know how you get on! :)

I've just ordered some more stuff from the same seller (a veil and petticoat). The seller has also said if I send a picture she can make me what I want  I have a dress I've seen online and can't find one like it anywhere so I'm thinking of maybe giving it a go and seeing what happens!

Thanks, I really love it! It did need some alterations though (which I posted about before). I was at the dressmaker on Tuesday evening and she's doing them at the moment. There's nothing that couldn't be fixed and none of the alterations are huge but it did need a few tweaks (and I wanted a few things added like straps and a bustle). I was expecting that though, I reckon most people who order online would need to get a few things altered. I'd still recommend it! :)

    Best of luck!

Hey there Watna, would you mind PMing me the details for the seller also. I'm really interested in buying my dress online, the savings are amazing!! Thanks!

thank you!!!! and glad you love your dresses!

Watna, your dress is fab! I was thinking of going with DH Gate for dresses but I had read a few bad reviews about them - I guess it depends the seller you get!

I had no need to order my own dress off the net, as I got it at an absolute bargain in Galway - it was a discontinued line - its absolutely gorgeous!

Has anyone here used RK Bridal - I have ordered my BM dresses from them, as I have seen mostly good reviews about them! Not due to be delivered for another 2 months though - kinda nervous but seriously couldn't justify paying over €250 each for them here, and €380 for all 3 online is too good to resist!

watna could you pm me the name of your seller on dhgate, and did you take your measurements yourself?

I'll send it on to you and LaurieLee shortly, when I'm online properly on my laptop.

I got my measurements taken at a tailors shop. It cost me about $20 but it was definitely worth it. The seller had some pictures on their page of what measurements they needed and how to take them so I just brought that with me.

Thanks watna, will def look into getting myself properly measured, how long were you waiting for your dress from the time of ordering.

Just sent you a pm with the seller's details.

The dress took about 5 weeks to get to me, I think.

Well ladies, i got my dress, after 5 weeks of waiting!
Couldn't believe how similar it is to the picture i sent, prob about 98% accurate.
I will have to get it taken in a bit and i think i might get an underskirt added. There is no doubt it is well worth it. Obviously the quality is not the same (it isn't as heavy as the original). However the material used is beautiful
I am very pleased with it. I am just hoping there is someone out there who will be able to take it in and add some extra netting underneath.
