It is not going to work in Ireland. Most of us already pay for BBC via UPC/Sky Subscriptions. Why pay twice? It's not a catch up TV service. The subscription model is more expensive than other services to allow access to the UK iPlayer on iPad etc. If Channel 4 can make 4OD catchup free in ROI, surely the BBC can make a similar service available, even at the right price. Currently this app is not catch-up and costly.

It's all down to the "unique way the BBC is funded". Licence payers in the UK would be up in arms about seemingly subsidising non-uk residents' viewing of what they have to pay for.

TBH, if it was a subscription service that mirrored the iPlayer service available in the UK, I actually think it might be worth it!

I currently live and work in the UK, will be coming over to Ireland to live from September sometime. Love the iPlayer, I think my office VPN usage will be increasing somewhat!
