The u21 management team resigned last night after the loss to Limerick. Right time for them to step down but after the selections and subsitutions last night im not sure if they should get the senior job regardless of there All Ireland success in 2009.

Id presume the current minor management would be favourites to take over the u21 management now.

    What about Davy?

    What about Davy?

Davy is the next senior manager, the July & August county board meetings have been postponed so he won't be ratified until September, unless Waterford win the All Ireland and write a blank cheque book to keep him of course

Very disappointed with that match.. I was expecting so much more but we were flat all over except for Kelly. Intermediates and Minors are the only 2 left on the road this year, hopefully they will go well!

ya it was. a 17 year old was our best player!! Too early to be put in senior team???? :p

We were bullied all over the pitch and just didnt have the height or strength in the defence to cope with Limerick. Cant understand how Kevin Moynihan wasnt seen as good enough to be on that team as Fennessy who came in was awful last night when introduced.

might be no harm to give Kelly a few games in the league wing forward, also need sort out the team down the centre 1,3,6,8,9,11,14

Ger Loughnane's Family hit out at false media reports

    28 July, 2011 - 10:35am

The family of Clare hurling legend Ger Loughnane have hit out at false reports concerning the state of his health.

A number of websites and other media outlets have incorrectly reported that the 57 year old passed away last night.

The former Clare Hurling Manager who won two All Star Awards for the county before leading Clare to their first All Ireland Hurling title in 81 years in 1995 and then again 1997, is currently undergoing treatment for leukaemia.

The family have been inundated with calls regarding his condition and speaking to Clare FM family spokesperson Matt Purcell said the rumours are completely false and Ger is responding 100 percent to treatment.

Just looking back at the u21 final, and Limerick had 3 minors playing a part in the victory, Dowling and Carmody along with a lad at the back, can't remember his name. Clare had Tony Kelly, was there anyone else. I think its extraordinary that a minor plays U21 and is one of the better players. Dowling for limerick last night, Kelly for Clare last time out. I really hope these type of players fulfil their promise.
I suppose its like the saying "If your good enough, your old enough"

Barry O'Connell came on at wing-back and is the full-back on the minor team. He's an incredible player- hurling, football, soccer, the lot. And he still has another year minor too.

But it is true...if you are good enough, you'll make it. Andrew O'Shaughnessy started for Limerick age 17 and was one of our best forwards.

He is minor next year as well:eek::eek:
That is some going. Did Andrew O Shaughnessy play 5 years U21, i knew he played 4, didn't realise he played the 5th also.

O Connell sounds like the usual legend, we all know one, he is brilliant at every thing he plays. Fair play to him though..

Yeah sure he's only just 17 a couple of months ago. And he's massive aswell, so he's well able for the phyiscal side too. His shoulder last night caused the Cork guy to fall and drop the ball, leading to the final clearance.

Almost certain Shaughs did, he was some talent too.

But Tony Kelly is the same for Clare, he's going to be an outstanding player.

Amazing achievement alright to play u-21 for 5 years, only Tipp man I can think of that did it was Eoin Kelly and we all know what he went on to achieve, Tony Kelly looks the real deal to me, I would actually rate him as a hotter prospect than Hannon tbh.

Just home after being in Croker on Sunday. Absolutely gutted for the minors. Just ran out of steam in the end and at the end of the day were only the width of of a post away from another final.
There were some grat performances from Cunningham,Duggan & Browne. Thought Jamie Shanahan didnt get onto enough ball and at times our forwards were a bit too greedy when there was a teammate in a better position.
Hopefully this current management team now take over the u21's and continue to bring through these young lads.

Ya I was there myself too. Kelly hitting the post in the final few seconds was just soo unlucky. And I think it was unfair to have extra time. A replay would have been better.

was talking to one of the players on the Clare minor team today and they were given an official apology from Croke Park over the extra time being played. They stated that it should not have taken place. Oh well, too late now anyway.

I've only seen a bit of this Kelly lad. I'll take people's word for it that he was very imrseeive against Limerick in the 21s and Tipp in the minor, but he wasn't great against Waterford in the minor, and all I saw was the second half and et on Sunday but again didn't think he was awe inspiring. Hannon scored six points from play against Dublin, so until Kelly does that Hannon is the better player in my view (I know Kelly still has two years til he's Hannon'ss age but I'm just saying). I heard somone say that Liam McGrath was a better prospect then Noel after Noel McGrath's first year with the Tipp seniors and I find that hard to believe.

I thought it was a disgrace to play extra time. Both teams were clearly exhausted; us moreso. Having U18's playing an 80 minute matche is ludicrous imo.

Not so much. The Roscommon and Armagh minors (football) played out an extra-time filled with great play and great scores only a week and a half ago, extra-time is perfectly fair if agreed to and adhered to beforehand.

The fact they played extra-time when the teams didn't even know they had to was completely and utterly shambolic, though.

Anyone know the scores from the Championship matches last night??

Liam is very good, I think the claim that he would be better than Noel came form the fact that Liam was always the standout player by a long way underage both with Loughmore and Tipp, whereas Noel had better hurlers around him and while he stood out aswell there were others who shone also. Liam is a fantastic hurler but he has neither great physique or speed, and you need one or the other, now he may well fill out and he is a very natural hurler and an excellent free taker aswell so time will tell I guess.

Interestingly there is an other younger brother Brian who is absolute class aswell, I remember Loughmore won a primary scholls county final a few years back the score was something like 1-6 to 1-5, Brian was in second class at the time and scored all 1-6 including a sideline in semple stadium(sound familiar) and he also won an u-12 county final on the playing field and wasnt allowed play the following year when they brought in the new minimum age rules

They have a cousin John McGrath who was on both football and hurling minor teams in Tipp this year aswell ;)

    WHHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :D

We have an All Ireland final to look forward to now. Great second half performance and a deserved win.
Couldnt believe it took them till 40 minutes into the game to switch Kelly from full-back.
