Bit disappointing to see someone wearing the ' Moderator' tag throwing out that silly comment ! I Thought Moderators were intended to moderate ?

Im a moderator on the magic forum, not here.

you're trolling. above you claim norris is whinging about the nomination set up. when its pointed out its some of his supporters, not him, you say he should have spoken out against it. when it was pointed out he did, you said "of course he'd say that"... you're argument is changing by the post, regardless of the information put in front of you, and each time you are presented new evidence, you change your mind about what you want.

Perhaps my expectations of how posters displaying the Moderator tag should act are too high - though I am sure most moderators are conscious of the desirability to show good example.
First of all I havent been presented with any evidence as such. Some posters made reference to remarks made on a radio show, that is all. .
Much of the attitude I take to Norris now was formed after looking at the interview video, reading some of his own website and other reports of his various comments and remarks. He has, it seems to be me, to be remarkably evasive on quite a number of issues - I will be very ahppy to provide you with evidence of this in the form of direct quotations and web links, do you want me to ?

I'm not questioning anything on your views on him with regards to the video interviews. You said he should have spoken out about supporters bemoaning the nomination system, you were brought evidence that he did, and you said "well of course he'd say that"...

You singlehandedly lambasted him for not speaking out, then for speaking out.

I also fail to see where any comments I've made on this thread have effected my ability to moderate a magic and Illusion forum, but please do not bring it up here again as it is wildly off topic. If you would like to complain, take it to feedback.

On a point of order here, I made no comments whatsoever about your ability to moderate your own section and i would like you to acknowledge that.

I explained that I am not a moderator here, and the tag only refers to the magic forum. again you commented

I am merely a poster on this forum. leave it at that.

but nevermind, use this "issue" to ignore the fact that you were at the least hypocritical with your posting on this page.

My posts reveal a frustration and impatience that Mr Norris whom until very recently I beleived to be a cut above the rest of our politicians is in fact shown to be by his very own words little different from them at all and has shown a remarkable talent for evasiveness, Again I can give specific examples of this without even touching on the areas that attracted most negative comment. Shall I ?

I've just been listening to Norris with Pat Kenny on RTÉ. On caller asked would he be receiving his pensions from the Senate and TCD, while being President. He said he would, but that he would (somehow) devote the loot to good causes. He said that he would not return them, as the State "squanders money".

The state has a deficit, and one of the ways it squanders money is paying pensions to people still in State employ. Using the state money so paid for a good cause doesn't make it any better, it is still being used for the wishes of a person rather than the public.

    Norris does not impress.

But yet he impresses enough to be leading in the polls despite the dedicated smear campaign against him.

    He was right.
The state would piss it up against a bank wall.

Any "dedicated smear campaign" against him is being more than compensated for by his media buddies. They give him an easy ride just like Pat Kenny this morning almost answering the questions for him. Norris is the darling of the media and with their help will have no problem getting the required quota to run for President. I will not be voting for him but i already see him as a shoe-in thanks to the media.

In fairness, Pat Kenny gives everyone an easy ride for the simple reason is that he is no more than a grossly overpaid, lightweight, jumped up DJ. Despite having started this thread, and not being impressed by a lot of what David Norris has said, I will probably be voting for him such is the low quality of the opposition. President Michael Twee - I think not!

'St Norris ' has no problem seeing taxpayer's money squandered when it comes to his own pet hobby horses being financed. I have siad it before, if a rural TD like Jackie Healy rae came out with some of the things Norris says, he would be ridiculed.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,672 ✭✭✭anymore

It just occurs to me that it seems to me that Norris is seeking to undermine the elected Government by his repeated assertion that any money he would repay would be squandered. At this point I would ask if he even understands what the nature of the relationship between the President and the Government of the day is. This is simply rabble rousing stuff from the man.

anymore you seem to be getting rather obsessive; 3 posts in this thread today to keep the pot boiling??

Go ahead - this is probably better than your own evasive tease "He's an X, but I won't tell you why he's an X, would you like me to? " Make a statement, defend it etc just don't bandy unsubstantiated guff about.

Norris has been pointing out the waste of public money for years. Just happens that now we are listening....

All the better for Norris. Back in May (in this thread), I said:
Fortunately, I think these attempts will backfire. I think more voters will think they will look like anti-gay bigotry and back Norris than will believe Norris is some sort of perv and vote against him
And that's how it seems to have worked out. Norris has moved up the field to be favourite to win.

I am flattered if surprised that you are a keeping a running count of my posts ? If you feel I am posting to keep the pot boiling, then why are you being obliging ?
As for evasiveness, what is Mr Norris's position as reagrds legalising abortion in Ireland. I have tried but I cant find any conclusive postion on this on his ' Open Letter'.

Why would it matter? It isn't as if he'll have any influence over it.

Norris made it claer on the Boards.ie video that he will not ask for a salary cut - his final comment on it was that any President from " a working class " background might need the money ! This is an appalling comment from a man who has been paid by the taxpayer for all his ' working ' life and show s jsut how removed from reality he is.
The most bizarre thing though is his attitude to the Presidential salary seems to contradict the attitude he has taken to political salaries in the past ???

No, why would he do a mad thing like that?

Why wouldnt he? People are calling for all politicians to do this, to keep the gold diggers out and the genuine change-makers in. If he's on about not squandering the state's money, why should the state squander money on giving the president a good time?

Well it is he who has brought the subject up on his website on the pretext that he was giving his opinion on the subject. But instead of giving an answer, we get the ' Bertie Shuffle ' which repeats some meaningless platitudes but doesn't actually give any real answer. And still he presents himself as a ' human rights' campaigner. So what of women who consider they have human rights as regard abortion and might have thought they could at least get a straight answer from Norris. If he can speak at a 'Right to Choose' Rally, why cant he even give his opinion now ?
