What is the worst case of Political Correctness you have come across?

Political correctness has to be one of the most annoying modern phenomena.

It seems you have to think about every word you say before you say it in case you offend your grannies dog.

In a recent conversation with this self righteous individual I was stopped in my tracks mid sentence when I said that "generally women are better around children then men are". This person shouted "Oh you can't say that". Not so much that they thought it sexist but that I had made a generalisation.

I know we can't always generalise but in certain circumstances we can. Surely my statement wasn't too much of a generalisation?

Anyway, my point is the the PC Police today are so irritating you can't say anything or do anything!!

What is the worst case of political correctness you have come across?

Hey your kids having a Nativity play... you can't take any pictures or god forbid record it that would be just plain weird... and creepy.

Administrators at a California high school sent five students home after they refused to remove their American flag T-shirts on Cinco de Mayo, the Mexican Day of Independence. That’s right, kids, you can’t wear your country’s flag in your country, lest it offend someone celebrating the holiday of a different country. The story began when Assistant Principal, Miguel Rodriguez, asked two of the five teens to remove their American flag bandanas. The boys complied, but were still taken to the principal’s office for a chat. One of the boys told NBC “They said we could wear it on any other day, but today is sensitive to Mexican-Americans because it’s supposed to be their holiday, so we were not allowed to wear it.” They are right. It might be a little insensitive to wear an American flag shirt on Cinco De Mayo– if we were in MEXICO.
And it is an important holiday—IN MEXICO. School District Superintendent Wesley Smith later described the incident as “extremely unfortunate” and said the matter is still under investigation.

When someone told me I shouldn't say "disabled" - the PC term is 'differently abled'.

you can't say blackboard anymore, instead call it a chalkboard *if any schools still have them boards?.

I seldom experience this "tyranny" you're talking about OP. It's rare that you'd encounter a crazily PC nut - and I mean actual PC.

    Bet you can say "blackboard".

I remember a nativity display was removed from a Dublin hospital all right, which was just ludicrous IMO.

I was asked to change a report so that instead of 'disabled people' it said 'people with disabilities'. I didn't mind and promptly made the changes. However, a die hard PC fundamentalist then asked that it be changed to 'differently abled' I laughed and refused and went ahead with the publication. To me, whenever I hear 'differently abled' I picture a guy with wings...

As I posted in R&R, I recently watched a TV show that had this warning before it:

"The following show deals with themes of a paranormal nature and should be intended as entertainment only"

    How is that PC?

Political correctness is extreme tiptoe-ing so that you won't offend a particular group.

I think the connection is that its equally ridiculous. The PC brigade cant see the wood from the trees sometimes.

My example is when on the 12th July last, I saw an orange parade led by a banner which read "Republicanism = cultural apartheid". Facepalm moment!

Again, what's PC about it? Inflammatory perhaps, but who is it at pains to not offend? If anything it's doing the opposite.

The phrase is constantly, constantly misused.

Okay, maybe not PC, maybe oversensitivity? Overprotection? Oversonething anyway, completely bizarre
