Until they get rid of the "We are Fianna Fáil..." bit at the start, I won't be singing it. I'm not part of Fianna Fáil.

Then again, they might need to change more of it. It's cringe-worthy that it goes on about so much militarism when as a country, we are defenseless without our neighbours.

As a tune its pretty dire but thats not the point. Its ours.
When I hear it sung really loud at a match it still gives me a lump in the throat.

Ireland's call on the other hand makes me cringe.

I love our national anthem.

Its got a catchy tune you can remember, I'm a bit iffy with the words but I agree with the sentiment etc etc.

I also think its got a bit of irish character to it as well.

Look at god save the queen, its just a fawning appreciation of the queen with a bombastic tune.

its brilliant. makes me proud to be irish. when theres passion put into the singing its rousing. used to know the whole thing off by heart but since i left school all irish i knew is gone. just remember the chorus now

Our national anthem is, from a musical point of view, bloody fantastic. It has everything you want in an anthem; it's quick-paced, has lulls and high points and ends in a magnificent crescendo. It's quite similar to the French anthem from a musical point of view although not quite as complex. I really, really love our anthem - it's great.

And no, you can't change the lyrics. Just try to sing them and inject them with meaning of your own if you must.
