Hello all - looking to rent a car for a few days and will probably do so on and off. I live in the southern part of the county and it's a bit of a haul to get to the airport to rent. Does anyone know of any car rentals in the Dublin 14 area or thereabouts? Thanks...

Hi guys, this is my first post on boards.ie.

I'm also looking for car rental(s).

A friendly and helpful local (Mike the mechanic) gave me some clever advice:
    • Go online to find what's available, in case there are some kiler deals
    • Be aware some places could be super keen to do deals
    • Try to get a great deal, then split the period to suit you - e.g. it might be possible to get a lower rate on a 2wk rental - and then split that rental across two non-contiguous weeks.
For example, I'd be looking for something like 2-3wks but maybe not all in the absolute peak season, so hope to get a lower rate for 2-3wks but split up those weeks, e.g hire for a week, a week gap, then another week hire etc.

Has anyone got some stories/tips to do something like this?

Mike also recommended Enterprise as potentially doing really good deals, but to check Hertz too. :)

    Thanks!
    Ben

Enterprise on the Naas Road just down from the Red Cow are the cheapest of all Enterprise franchises.

Thanks for this. I'm surprised that there is variation in prices.
Would there be any good deals for a day or two or is that a pipedream as it's peak season?

Will take a look now; please advise of any great deals! I think Enterprise at Deansgrange was mid-high 40s for a day.

Has anyone rented from Hertz, South Circular?
This week, being peak season, what are my chances of actually getting a VW Golf or getting something inferior, e.g. 'or similar'?

Any thoughts on what Hertz might likely have this week in the Golf category?

In my experience they've only ever upgraded me, i.e. no Ford Ka's available, got a Focus Instead.

They can't 'downgrade' you, once in Dublin they asked if I wanted to upgrade to a larger model for X / day.

I said no and they gave me a 2 Liter Diesel Mondeo, when I'd only booked the smallest haype of ****e they had.

I used them when I was between cars last year, and I think I got a pretty good deal - about €75 for an Opel Corsa for a week.

Thanks for this; I was asking to check the fun factor' of the cars likely to be offered. IMHO, VW Golf > Ford Focus > Toyota Corolla > Hyundai > Chevy on the fun scale.

I wonder if Hertz South Circular has Golfs AND Focus AND Corolla in stock or just one brand.

Since we've booked that size, of course we would want to get that size (unless we were offered an Audi A1 or Mini!).

I'll be disappointed to get a Corolla rather than a Golf, that's all.
A Mondeo diesel or similar slight upgrade would be nice.

It's all about getting a fun to drive car, for driving in the west! Kerry, Clare, West Cork etc. :D

I wish rates were that good in the summer. I couldn't get it below EUR$200/wk!

I'll see if I can find the site I used to book them through. On a related note; I hated every minute of driving the Corsa. Unfortunately the Fords & Fiats they also had were rented out by the time I got there.
