Yay! Miss2011, Great news altogether!!! Absolutly delighted for you, you had seemed a bit resigned this month a few days ago.

Jennyw - Welcome. I hope you get a BFP in the near future.

Slight OPK line for me. Its day 11 tomorrow and hopefully I should get the trigger shot, depending on what the scan in the morning shows, and the plan is to hole up for the weekend and wear him out :D

Thank you so much for all the well wishes ladies, I do really appreciate them x

I'm kind of in a "what next" frame of mind now. When ttc you (well me anyway) get so blinkered to just getting pregnant, now that I am I'm a a bit unsure of the next step :D
Ah I'm sure well figure it out as we go alone like everyone else :o:)

I was actually feeling a little bit bad for recommending the AC when you seemed to have such a bad reaction to it and instead it might have helped do the trick for you.:D

That's just me all over, panic first, think later, in hindsight it definately made a difference this month so thank you so much for the recommendation ;)

    Game onnnnn!

Had my dildocam tm: Detective Foxtrot, and there were a few follicles, 2 mature (one was mahoosive) and one smaller immature one (teenager follicle:p) so I got the Pregnyl Injection to trigger ovulation which should take place about 40 hrs from this morning, bringing us into Sunday. I asked about the success rate and they say that 20% of infertile couples using TSI with Clomid and Pregnyl get pregnant after 3-4 rounds.

So, we were told to try once on Saturday (before O) and once on Sunday (after O). I asked why just the twice and she said its to let the sperm replenish. It got me thinking where the girls were sure that they didnt do it enough to get pregnant that cycle but still got their BFP.

My belly hurts a little on my injection site when I rub it off the desk, but I would take ten times the discomfort for it to work.

    Finger crossed for you Neyite.

I'm out for the next month. The doctor has advised us to wait a month until my husband is off his medications completely as they are definitely problematic for sperm production. Apparently they make the sperm too mobile, which sounds like it should be good but isn't, as they can either run out of juice before they get where they need to or can be low on genetic information causing miscarriage. Tbh, I have a suspicion that this month and two months ago were chemicals, so it's good to know that there could be a quite fixable reason for them, if that's what's happened.

So I'm getting hormone tests this month and my husband will come off his meds and probably get tested in a month or two when they are out of his system.

I'm joining in! On day 6 of my cycle.

Took my last pill (Yasmin) approx a week ago, had withdrawal bleed (much heavier than normal bizarrely). Hoping I'll ovulate normally this month and won't have to wait several months for periods & ovulation to get back to normal, could be wishful thinking!

Because I have no discernable cycle to speak of yet, we're just going to get jiggy with it every other day. Not going to do it everyday as a) we haven't done that since we were like 20 (I'm 29 now) and I don't think it would have the same novelty now and b) it's supposed to affect the sperm count if there's too much jizzing (medical term :D) going on, as you know.

Also, an interesting fact I've read in a couple places but have not seen mentioned on this forum is that a fairly key part of the conception process is that the woman reaches orgasm. Reason being is that the spasms of it make the cervix dip down into the "sperm pool" near the entrance to the womb, pulling the sperm up into the uterus. Also, if you're enjoying yourself, things are much more likely to be slippy & slidey, creating a better environment for the sperm to make their 7" journey. Should make things more fun.

Iguana I'm going to order the capsules so & see how we both get on with them. Here's hoping they'll work & we'll be back soon to report our own positives :)

Will you both be taking the maca or just you? They are supposed to be very good for both sperm production, egg health and support in the embryonic stage of pregnancy. We'll definitely both be taking them but not until after we are both tested as we want the test results to reflect our natural states.

I really hope it is his medication which has stopped us from having any success but on the other hand I'm very nervous about him rushing off his medication too soon. I suspect he'd just stop today if he could but he has to taper off slowly to avoid getting sick. So hopefully that should function as a warning if he's cutting his dosage too fast. And then when he's off them it will be at least 6 weeks before they are out of his system and stop effecting his sperm, it could take as long as 3 months. So I think at best we might get a positive for Christmas. (Which would be all kinds of awesome.)

Welcome on board Mink :) hopefully your cycle will regulate asap after coming off the pill & you'll get your positive result v soon.

Iguana, I started taking them Friday & himself today. I'm not sure how soon they're supposed to work as I've found various websites give conflicting info about it but I'm CD12, have previously ovulated between day 14-18. I wonder would it have any effect on this cycle or does it take some time to build up in your system?

I hope all goes well with your husband weaning off his medication & that he doesn't have any ill effects as a result.
I've fingers & toes crossed that you do get a Christmas BFP, that would be pretty amazing :)

I'd honestly advise talking to a few other doctors. We were told by ours that it can take up to three months for certain drugs to leave the male system enough to stop impacting sperm quality and production. It honestly sounds like your doctor has no interest in putting himself out enough to research the subject even slightly. S/he just seems to be fobbing you off.

thanks for this, he is trying to come down on his dose with the aim of finally being off, it has taken him 6 months to drop by a third, so it maight be another year. but htat is presuming he can live without them when he has needed anti dep for 20 years. sometimes i think i might go back on pill, i think maybe my baby making hormones are torturing me every month by wanting to be pregnant, but i dont want to miss an opportunity should it arise.

i guess like everyone here the hardest thing is people keep expecting you to be making an announcement. im already worried about chrsitmas when my sis is due her baby adn i will be turnign 30. i just know it will be a constant in my house of when are you going to have one. they think it is harmless teasing but it hurts so much!

Lots of ups and downs for all the ladies of TTC. Chins up.

I am feeling a lot more positive this weekend. James gone again this week for work and the next few weeks will be like that as well. I am fine about it this weekend, not the melt down of last weekend!!! Thanks Ladies for all the messages and PMs really kept me going.

I slept so well last night and that makes such a difference in how I feel. Had a nice weekend, normal household stuff yesterday plus a nice lunch out and a early night!!!!!!! WOO normal service is back!!!

Went for a nice early dinner this evening before James left and just had a bowl of ice cream now and going to grab a beer and head to bed and read. Have a couple of new books to read

I have a pain in my back and cramps so I feel like my period is on the way.

Finally feeling like I am getting back to normal, looking forward to the summer and holidays and if I am honest looking forward to one last try. Feel different about trying this time, sort of if it works it works and if not, well at least we gave it our best shot and we decided if it dose not work we are going to finally take that bit of time out of life and travel for 2 months and make some more good happy "us" memories and then come back and see what our next step will be, maybe adoption.

I think we both feel better about trying this time as we are not expecting it to work, just hoping it will and so no presure. Sounds very heartless I know but when you have had so many M/C that you have had you use both your hands twice to keep count what else do you do.

Cannot believe how well we are coping this time, last time I was a nut job and a total mess.

I think the support here helps, I can vent.

Sorry for the major long post.

From what I've read what I experienced was a 'breakthrough bleed' and apparently its pretty common with AC, but it is all about weighing up what is right for you :)

I'm doing fine, bbs are so sore but that's it really. I'm finished work for good in 3 weeks, all going well I'll make my doctor's appointment then and get the ball rolling on my hospital visits, I will be 7 weeks by then :)

MS great to hear you're doing great :) at least you're finishing up work at the right time :) I'd love to finish now & just relax for the rest of this preg, I'm exhausted all the time! Thankfully I only work part time though :)

DFT how are you feeling? How's the 2 week wait going?

Hope everyone is enjoying their Monday :) I'm watching a whole load if crap on tv with a bag of popcorn & a very big bar of galaxy

I second this. I think your attitude is brilliant Caroline, it has to be so tough to keep your chin up under the circumstances.
If your optimism & positivity could be bottled & sold the world would be a better place for it!

Mareliada, could you maybe have a word with your mum or one of the family & ask them not to pass comment. Or let her know (if she doesn't already) your circumstances so she can deflect well intended but hurtful comments?

Its worse when people rub it in unintentionally. Hopefully you will get your bfp soon though & you won't have to face such comments x

Hi all. I’m a first time poster and a bit nervous talking about my situation as it’s something I haven’t really spoken about to even my closest friends. I feel like I know most of you and I’ve shed a few tears following your stories over the past few months. Basically I’m looking for some advice. My husband was sick about two years ago and had to undergo some fairly heavy chemo, which has affected his sperm count. Thankfully he is all better and we got married last Christma:) We have been trying to get pregnant for about 7 months now. I am charting my cycle but to be honest it’s hard to get the ovulation days right as my cycle is not very consistent. It ranges between 26 and 36 days.

Can anyone tell me of a website to get the cheap ovulation testers? I’m spending a fortune. Oh and do you think I should go to my GP? Some months I have no obvious signs of ovulation.

Thanks a million for listening. It lovely knowing that there are others to talk to about it.:D

Welcome aboard Custard Cream :) so sorry to hear of your hibbus illness.. Maybe it might be worth while going to your Doc to get your Day 3 & Day 21 bloods done! I used www.accessdiagnostic.co.uk for my ovulation tests, I think it wa DFT that told me about them but the tests are super cheap especially if you buy in bulk! They worked for me! As for your OH maybe he should get his sperm motility checked too, your Doc should be able to advise you on what steps to take! You'll find lots of help & support here hun, everyone is so nice and well informed :) I wish you the best of luck on your journey and hope you get your BFP soon x

Hi Custard Cream & welcome on board :) Congrats on your recent marriage & on your husbands recovery also after Chemo, sounds like you've had a rollercoaster of a year!

My cycle is the same in recent months, all over the place! I have tried the cheaper opk sticks, maybe its just me but I don't find them effective as I rarely if ever seem to get a true positive on them.
I've found the Clearblue digital sticks much more effective, but they are expensive.

Something that might be worth trying is the Clearblue digital monitor. Mine arrived in the post yesterday, I've read the instructions cover to cover (a first for me :o;)) & I'm raring for day 1 of my next cycle to give it a go!
From what I've read of the instructions coupled with reviews here and on other TTC websites; it does simplify tracking ovulation & tells you exactly when to do the deed.
I was put off them a few months ago as I found them very expensive (€110 new ). But when I tot up what I've spent in the past year on cheap opk's, pregnancy tests & digital sticks it may have been cheaper getting one of these from the start.
I picked one up second hand online for €50. The previous owner successfully became pregnant using it so I'm hoping it's a lucky one :D

Another suggestion would be to try some natural supplements like Agnus Castus or Maca to regulate your cycle.
We've already had some success here with Agnus Castus; I've just started taking the Maca so will report back at the end of the month to see if that's working for me. My cycles range at the moment from 30-42 days, previously there were bang on 28-30 days; so I will be interested to see if the Maca does help here :)

I agree 110% with Tigeress, the day 3+21 bloods are a great place to start also, it'll give you and your gp an indication of what's happening with your cycle.

Fingers crossed you'll get your positive result soon :)

    Hi Custard Cream - Welcome!!

Depending on your age, its normally recommended that if you are over 35 and TTC for 6 months or if you are under 35 and TTC for a year to begin investigations with the GP.

However, in light of your hubby's illness, it might be worthwhile exploring it sooner rather than later, even a chat with a GP and a semen analysis referral makes you feel pro-active.

I use the cheapie tests, and happy enough with them, but im not an obsessive tester so I dont go through heaps. I have only used a Preg Test about 3 times during the 2 years TTC and that was when my period was a day late. (I cant figure out if its willpower or denial!)

Me? Well I got the pregnyl jab (in my tummy:() on friday and the jab site got sore during the day so I cancelled my girlie night out and stayed on the sofa. We proceeded with the Timed shagging as directed by the clinic and I'm not to test until mid August as the aforementioned injection would only throw up a false positive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭DetectivFoxtrot

10 days past and I've yet to test. Not because I'm being a normal human being but becasue I have only one cheapie test left (I have two digi's but will only break them out when I KNOW I'm pg)!! So I will not test til tomorrow as that's when I got my positive last time. If it's neg I know I'm out so no more stressing til ov comes around again.

Custard Cream welcome aboard. These are the cheapest test you'll find:-

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/100-OVULATION-PREGNANCY-TEST-TESTS-U-CHOOSE-FP-CHART-/310334473321?pt=UK_Health_HealthCare_RL&hash=item4841604469#ht_9165wt_905

I buy quantity of 100 and you can make up the 100 how you please, e.g. 70 ov tests 30 pg tests, or 50/50 etc. The 60 ov/40 pg combo works well for me. Don't expect instructions for this price (!) but come on here and we'll tell ya how to use them, we're experts ;)

just search ovulation tests in eBay and loads of hits come up

Hope everyone is doing well. I am off work next week and it cannot come around quick enough!!

Hi everyone, I'm new here, I've been ttc since last December. My story is as follows. I'm in my early 20's, and am recently married. I was on Yasmin fro 2 years, and came off it in October 2009. I got the withdrawal bleed, and then got AF in Jan 2010. I got AF again in July 2010 and again last December. I have been getting AF each month since last December. We have agreed that we will be going to the doctor in December if nothing happens between now and then. WE're taking every vitamin under the sun as we want to give our baby the best start possible.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting the know everyone's stories in the coming months.:)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 224 ✭✭newbie!

Caroline, I don't know your full story as I haven't been on the forum that long but from the posts that I've read I think you are a truly inspirational person. Any child would be lucky to have you as their mum.

I haven't really focused too much on FTC this month as I think doing an interview and getting a new job took up so much of
my time. I'm on day 9 no though so might start testing at the weekend. Am away though so it's not that convenient to be peeing on sticks in someone else's's house :)

Hi all. Thanks so much for all the advice. I'm feeling very positive this month. We have been to the Hari unit following my OH's chemo so we know that his count is low but they are little flyers apparently:D

DetectivFoxtrot I've just been on that link you sent and I've bought the ovulation & pregnancy tests. (I also bought myself a new dress and a pair of shoes oh the dangers of ebay:p) I'm on day 6 so fingers crossed for nexct week. Thanks again everyone. This is such a friendly thread.

I just came off Yasmin (like mid July) and was on it a year. I don't want to be waiting around for periods!! I'm glad though that your cycle has sorted out.

I was on Dianette previous to Yasmin for approx 4 or 5 years. I came off it about 2 years ago for a 6 month break and my periods went back to normal straight away. Dianette is supposed to be a stronger pill then Yasmin so I am hoping the same thing will happen now. Well truthfully I'm hoping I get preggers straight away  but will settle for regular periods so I can at least try monitor ovulation etc.

Welcome MaryShanahan, hope you get your positive soon!:)

you're welcome CustardCream ;) EBay is evil!!

Bleugh!!! neg test this morn..... I had all of the talking to myself converations on the way in to work in the car and have decided if I'm not pg by December I'm going straight to IVF. Am sick of all the waiting. By the way I haven't discussed any this with OH, just with myself... silently. Probably just over reacting to yet another failed cycle....
my next HARI appt is 11th Aug... We are so having the IVF discussion then. Also I want to know exactly what my pg chances (in terms of %) are since having the lap, it better have been worth it....
OH took it harder than me this month, I knew his hopes were high.:(

Am going down south next week for a staycation, so at least I can have a few beers and relax :)

Great to see all the new folk on here!! Its a really great forum and these girls all have great advice to give so you've come to the right place!!

DFT - sorry about your neg :( I was really optomistic for you this month, i hope your doing ok, i know you got your positive at this stage before, but it really mite show up in a day or two! If it doesnt i think your plan for IVF is a great idea, even just having the decision made can be a huge relief. I have a friend who was due to start IVF ( for her 3rd child - first two both by IVF) next month and whoa and behold she fell pregnant on her own this month!! She thought it was impossible! Knowing that someone else is going to look after it for you can be just the remedy to take the pressure and stress off yourself!
    Anyway enjoy your staycation!!!

Im doing good really, i suppose i've sort of come to terms with the loss of one twin as much as i can at this stage. It has become easier even in the last week to focus on the healthy baby. Im so extremely worried about losing it to tho....it all just feels so fragile now. I have an appointment next thursday which will hopefully put my mind at ease, as ill be 11 and a half weeks then and if i see the baby is still alive and well i feel i will be able to start to believe in it!

I hope your all doing ok and i hope to see more positives on here soon, x
