Anders Behring Breivik, the 32-year-old suspect in Friday's attacks in Norway, held right-wing views, say police.

Police chief Sveinung Sponheim said his internet postings "suggest that he has some political traits directed toward the right, and anti-Muslim views".

"But whether that was a motivation for the actual act remains to be seen," he told Norwegian broadcaster NRK.

Little is currently known about him apart from what has appeared on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter - and these entries appear to have been set up just days ago.

On the Facebook page attributed to him, he describes himself as a Christian and a conservative. The Facebook page is no longer available but it also listed interests such as body-building and freemasonry.

The gunman was described by witnesses who saw him on Utoeya island as tall and blond - and dressed in a police uniform. The image of him posted on Facebook depict a blond, blue-eyed man.

The Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang quoted a friend as saying that the suspect turned to right-wing extremism when in his late 20s. The paper also said that he participated in online forums expressing strong nationalistic views.

That's a really unfortunate translation - a quirk of google translation I presume.

True. No need to write Google. I go and edit. Sorry of not translating it myself - been a long night.

Interesting to see heavily armed soldiers, many with dogs, are patrolling the bomb site in Oslo as well as guarding a number of significant buildings in the capital

91.. holy crap. It was at 17 when I went to bed :( really didn't expect the number of deaths to rise that much.

The whole thing just sounds like something out of a horror film, as clichéd as that is.. it really does.

Yep 17 when I went to bed too.
He looks so normal (stupid comment I know ) but I can see how the kids would have walked towards him, coupled with the fact he was in uniform

Yeah. It meant that when the real police came, they didn't know if they could trust them or not

Exactly! I'd be petrified! 84 on the island, did he have a decent amount of time alone with them?

Some sources say the shooting on the island lasted for up to 2 hours. If true, I cannot imagine the sheer terror those kids must have felt.

Such a horrific incident, I woke up this morning and I'm actually in shock that so many have died. Just terrible.

Me too and I thought sky news were being ott with 30 last night. Oh the terror. Serious question as I have no idea about guns, but would he have to be very competant to kill 84 fleeing targets? (sorry for the use of the word target )

Interestingly, those interests only look sinister/suspicious in hindsight.

To be honest I'd be slow to believe that. He may have been moving around very quickly, so it might have made people think there was more than one.

At least I hope there's not a second one running around free...

I'd also imagine the sound of gunfire could be so loud it may sound like it's coming in all directions

It was a very small island so they couldn't hide or escape. He would have had to reload his magazine a fair few times.

Well between calling them close to him initially and then hunting them down after that, with so much time before police came.. Plus he's interested in hunting in general so presumably he's practiced at shooting targets. There's also 6-12 months of conscription for men, so he'd have had the basic military training.

We live in a horrible world were this kind of thing happens
91 young lifes gone and the survivors on that island and the bomb are going to be messed up with post traumatic stress , flashbacks and the agony of losing their friends.
My heart goes out to them all the people on that island, the rescue workers, families of the deceased Hundreds of life's have been affected by this and it will take Norway a very long time to recover all because of the actions of one sick twisted man
It makes extremely hard reading witness accounts Im going to stop reading them now it is far to upsetting God only knows what they were feeling on that island
And shame on you Sky news and the Sun stooping to low levels and lies

A bloke from a Canadian paper got hold of his posts on a Norwegian forum, they're here. Lots of standard far right stuff. I was right about him being a 'nazis = leftists' kind of loon.

    1. Newspaper with national distribution
    2. Work for control of several NGOs
    3. Norwegian EDL
A Norwegian EDL? Just pathetic. :(

I still wouldn't see anything in them to suggest he is capable of blowing people up and shooting young people to be honest.

Me neither, and his forum posts for the most part wouldn't be out of place on any ordinary board. I've seen the same rubbish countless times, including here.
