I wake up to see over 80 people killed on that Island, it looks like the bomb was planted just for a distraction, to confuse. BBC are saying it took police about an hour and a half to get to the island, absolutely crazy.

This is a very plausible take on the motives:

    http://tinyurl.com/4y879vt

A lot of people criticizing the news organisations for speculating on the perpetrators. As well as taking the focus from the victims, this is completely normal as Islamic terrorism is to the fore in these times. In the 70s/80s, any bomb or gun attack in the UK, and the speculation was IRA/Irish involvement.

Was it right? No. Was it to be expected? Yes

In the scheme of things, is it that important? No.

Thoughts go out to the families of the victims.

"Suspect Breivik expresses sympathies for Winston Churchill and Norwegian anti-Nazi World War II hero Max Manus on his alleged Facebook profile."

    Gets more confusing doesn't it?

Crazy stuff. Seems to be no reason for it.

    @Gnobe

Palin said only the shooter was resposible but I disagree. We all have something to do with it as there are not just rights towards the society but we all have also resposibilities even there not might be a seperate Bill of Resposibilities like there is a Bill of Rights.

If you know anything about Nordic countries there has traditionaly been quite strong approval of responsibilities by the people towards the society from left to right.

This was on VG during the night - Google translation:

Anders Behring Breivik (32) who has been arrested for the bomb in the city center, and mass killing of victims, has lived in Oslo's West End in his life, before he announced relocation of Hedmark for a month.

VG has received confirmation from several independent sources that it was Anders Behring Breivik, who was arrested by armed police after the mass killings of Utøya Friday.

VG was also present when the emergency squad took action against the flat 32-year-old susceptible west of Oslo. Several foreign media have also named Breivik as the perpetrator.

    Unknown to the police

Arrested: Anders Behring Breivik (32). Photo: PRIVATE
From what VG has reported Breivik is unknown to the police before. He should have been convicted of minor traffic matters for over 10 years ago. He has no background in the military, apart from regular military service.

A childhood friend of Breivik says to VG Nett that he should have been right-wing in the late 20's, and posted a series of controversial opinions on Facebook. His profile was deaktiviert after a while. He later created a new profile where it mainly is posted links to music videos.

Shortly before midnight police went into action against the apartment as a 32-year-old susceptible west of Oslo.

    - I put the TV at home and read newspapers. Suddenly the police came to the door and we were asked to leave the apartment immediately. I have not met in person, but saw him when he visits his mother, said a neighbor who lives on the same floor.

    Critical of Islam

In online debates he makes his mark as a well-read, and one with strong opinions about Norwegian politics. He promotes a very conservative opinions, which he also called nationalist. He expresses himself strongly opposed to multiculturalism - that cultural differences can live together in a community.

He has had many posts on the site Document.no, an Islam-critical site that publishes news and commentary.

In one of the posts he states that politics today no longer revolves around socialism against capitalism, but that the fight is between nationalism and internationalism. He expressed clear support for the nationalist mindset.

He also commented on the Swedish news articles, where he makes it clear that he believes the media have failed by not being "NOK" Islam-critical.

    Created Twitter account

Six days ago he released his first and only message on the social networking site Twitter, where he laid out a famous quote by British philosopher John Stuart Mill sosialliberalisten.

On Facebook, report the man to be president of his own company. He claims he has an education in finance and religion, but does not disclose what universities he should have studied at. The only school he gives are Oslo Handel.

    Ran his own company

In spring 2009, created 32-year-old a separate company that would engage in the cultivation of vegetables, root crops and bright. The company in this industry you can get access to large amounts of fertilizer.

In the end of June / July, he moved well out of the apartment in Oslo west and rural Rena in Hedmark.

Among other interests he expresses his admiration for Winston Churcill, classical music and Max Manus.

The 32-year-old man has been active in video games and has been involved in the online game World of Warcraft. In connection with this game, he posted a picture of a pistolløp.

Truely horrific. RIP to all who died and my sympathies to all those injured and the families of all involved.

Is it asking too much to leave the conspiracy theory style speculating and anti islamic stuff out of it? This is not the time.

Its either a dis-information ploy that seems particularily popular amongst some of these head cases or on the other hand they can on occasion actually beleive that in reality these men would have supported "their " view of the world, their particular system of beleifs.

This is one man but there are plenty more like him I am afraid and this lunitic will now be a hero to those who beleive his kind of warped neo-nazi BS.

I am truely sickened by what has happened and by what I am seeing on TV this morning. My thoughts are with those who have died, their families and friends, and the decent people of Norway who i am sure are in shock after all of this.

Max Manus is one of many Norwegian's who fought as part of the reistance during WW2. Max Manus had a high profile and there was movie made about him recently.

What the American's would call - a real Norwegian hero.

It's normal muddleheaded politically illiterate frustrated loon stuff. If he's anything like some of the right wing Scandy types I've come across and unfortunately it appears more and more likely that he is, then he's probably of the opinion that the nazis were left wing.

The hospitals are full with the injured, we can only hope as many as possible are saved.

15 minutes it would have taken in a Helicopter.

Listening to the initial reports coming in when there was talk of road transport taking over an hour. WTF. Some questions will be raised.

That's a really unfortunate translation - a quirk of google translation I presume.

Interesting they mentioned his gaming. One could draw parallels to the airport scene in call of duty.

Most police forces dont have access to helicopter transport. In addition the attention would have been on the bombing.

Can't believe the death toll is 91, just woke up to read and hear it.

I admit my first private thought on hearing about the bomb blast yesterday in Oslo was maybe that's something to do with Al Qaeda/Middle East but I really despair at the 24hr 'news' channels (esp. Sky receivable in this country)

So desperate to make a story and add to it rather than report it - they were still pushing the alqaeda thing well into the early morning even after the arrest of Breivik.
Sure look at the British Sun's headline this morning - even for that rag, a shocking indictment of that kind of whoring media - I despise them, I really do.
They appear to have a ready made audience though looking at some of the posts on here and elsewhere.

indeed, it's easy to criticise how it panned out in hindsight, truth is that nothing can prepare civilian forces for things like this
