I didn't think they were that young. That's really sick that anyone could honestly aim to kill a bunch of 14-16 year olds.

They were between 15 and 25 - members of the Norwegian Labour Youth movement (youth wing of the Norwegian Labour Party, similar to the Labour Youth wing of the Irish Labour Party). I really hope that there weren't any Irish Labour Youth representatives there, I used to be a member a couple of months ago.

    Do you?

    Granted, I haven't (..........)seen that.

Or hes referring to certain posters with "history", as it were.

The ones in the picture look on the younger end of the scale. Something tells me that the 25 year olds were kind of camp leaders, organising the younger ones, much like the Gaeltacht.

According to the Guardian the shooter only had a blue jumper with a Police Badge attached, he didn't even have full uniform attire.

It certainly fits the descriptions so far, including one from a kid who was on the island, just showed him being interviewed on Sky. Said the shooter was armed with a rifle/sniper gun, looks like that's what yer man in the pic is holding.

Police have confirmed he had an automatic weapon

    (maybe more than one gun?)

If it's anything similar to my experiences in Labour Youth in Ireland then it really doesn't matter what age the organisers are. You kinda work your way to the top once you do you're given the responsibility of organising such events, although most leaders I know are over 18 and in college. Norwegian Labour Youth could have a different set-up. Most of these people are probably college students, as youth wings of political parties are usually more active in colleges, although as I say, it could be a different set up in Norway.

Not too sure if you're laughing with me or at me, but I've worked at a few of the Oya Festivalen and the women I saw there were genuinely stunning for the most part, not all of course.

I'm no prize pig meself, but it was nice to see so many beautiful women close up, what was quite disconcerting was that none of them acted like the rare beautiful women you'd encounter in Ireland, none of them had egos derived from their looks, have to say, that confused me a bit :)

    A matter of pride.

In 1973 when the international oil crisis limited the use of private cars, the King or Norway travelled by public transport. In the same year he travelled to Holmenkollen on the tram insisting that he paid the conductor for his fare (right). He was asked how he dared to go out in public without bodyguards. He replied that he had 4 million bodyguards—the entire population of Norway.

Didn't King Christian X of Denmark used to ride through Copenhagen every day without bodyguards, even under Nazi occupation? I feel like I read that somewhere a long time ago that the Germans were amazed by this, and received a similar response - that all Danish citizens were his bodyguards.

There is something very admirable about the lack of pretense and open nature of Nordic society. I hope that, whatever the root of this atrocity is, that it will not negatively impact that dynamic.

My initial thoughts when I first heard this news today were that Norway is culturally similar to Ireland, with a similar population/politics/economy. If something like that can happen there, it could probably just as easily happen here too. It's frightening really.

Norway are a member of Nato and has been involved in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya.

Above article is in Norwegian. Mentions how Norway has been one of the major bombers.

I may be mixing up, but I think I read somewhere that Norwegian locals wiped out several legions of troops that tried to attack, either the ruskis or the krauts.

They killed loads, ran the rest out and stole all of the tanks and ammo

    Edit, in WW2

An eyewitness report from a 15 year old girl on the island

    (via google translate)
She spoke in a whisper on the phone with her mother and father while he shot. They reassured her and she said that she hoped to survive.

Elise will not give his name because she is afraid. She said she took off her clothes while she tried to escape the killer, because she was dressed in bright colors that made it easy to spot her.

When NTB hit her, she is barefoot and with only a towel around her. It makes many other young people at the reception site at Sundvolden too.

It all began just after all AUF were made at an information meeting about the bomb explosion in Oslo.

Outside stood a man wearing police uniform. She says he said:

    - Come to me, I have important information came to me, it's not dangerous.

She saw several being killed. The killer fired at youths who came to him.

    Asked them to

As she lay beneath the stone, she heard him breathing heavily and had a gurgling voice - it was while he stood on the stone and asked them to come to him.

    - It seems like it lasted for several hours says Elise.

But her mother, who had her on the thread of the dramatic minutes, said it only lasted a short time.

    Extension and extension

She said the man first "took" those on land.

When they tried to hide in gangs, he shot at all the threads.

    - After he shot at everyone who had to swim, says Elise.

Elise says that the man who shot was Norwegian.

    - I needed to hear the voice of mom and dad.

She thinks even that was because she had mom and dad on the thread that it was good for her, they reassured her way.

    - People ran like crazy everywhere, says 15-year-old.

    - He shot and shot, says Elise.

Although she helped a girl who had received two shots in the stomach.

Elise dare not say how many died, but she believes there are more than ten dead.

Relatives drove to Sundvolden throughout Friday evening. (© AP)

The President of Norway has said that the man arrested was Norwegian and is thought to be responsible for both attacks.

Just heard about this after being away for the day...can't believe it!
Shocking and sad to see. I can never understand why someone would open fire on children; it's just disturbing!
Read a quote from Norwegian PM on Sky News site (now sure if anyone mentioned it) "Nobody can bomb us to be quiet. Nobody can shoot us to be quiet. Nobody can ever scare us from being Norway". Seems to be a very proud country. Hope they recover from this tragedy.

FFS, Sky are trying to blame it on Muslims again, even though moments ago they said it was a Norwegian man.

They finished talking to an eyewitness, talked about the incident for a bit, reiterated that it was a Norwegian man arrested and went on about internal terrorism, and then started talking about Norway's involvement in NATO, and how this may have influenced Al Qaeda, while saying "speculation" far too much.

One possible suspect is a neo-nazi that was picked up in 2001 with dynamite and a police uniform. They have a similar age and so may be the same person?

    OMG!

They are pathetic. "There are hints, perhaps, that this might be a domestic incident. But certainly we don't now yet."

Oh, now you make it clear you don't know and all this Islam speculation you barely mentioned this uncertainty. That's really taking the piss Mrs Botting.

A Norweigan man can be Muslim too, they aren't mutully exclusive. I assume 95% of people assumed it was a Muslim attack when they first heard the news so I don't see why its wrong to speculate that it could still be a Muslim attack, not all Muslim terrorists are Middle Eastern looking.
