For those looking for campus, I am too, but I was talking to the campus man at the open day and he said that 40% is allocated to first years and that most who apply get it.

I dunno about the rest of ye, but I suggest cans after the first jamming session. :D

Hey all, I'm coming to Maynooth in september.

Hopefully Psychology/Sociology/English through Arts or pure Psychology if I get the points.

I'm worried because I know no one going to NUIM.

Just out of curiosity is anyone here from Leixlip?

I too have chosen those subjects for the Arts, and I just started the essay writing course so hopefully it is all go for September :D

Your subjects make me look like a dosser :p. Music, Mathematical Physics and maybe astrophysics/psychology in first year.
I've only been there the once but I loved it. It was so open and modern in comparison to cramped Trinity.

Does anyone know when we will find out dates we would start/move into accommodation etc? After CAO offers?

Well 1st year orientation week starts the 12th of September this year, so based on last year I'd imagine you'll be allowed to to move in Sunday 11th.

Here's the important dates for 1st semester, which can also be found on the Nuim website in the Current Students tab. G'luck with the results :D

    FIRST SEMESTER
    Monday 12 September to Friday 16 September 2011 First-Year Registration/Orientation
Monday 19 September 2011 Lectures commence
Monday 31 October to Friday 4 November 2011 Study Week
    Thursday 3 November 2011 Prize-Giving Ceremony
Friday 16 December 2011 Conclusion of First Semester Lectures
Monday 19 December 2011 to Friday 30 December 2011 Christmas Vacation
Monday 2 January to Thursday 5 January 2012 Study Period
Not before Friday 6 January 2012 Examination period commences

Is the study week in early November what we would know to be midterm break? :p

Sort of. You'll find that many subjects will usually have you do essays over the break, so it wouldn't really be considered a holiday. Still, if you're like myself and most everyone else, you'll have a great time with a week free of lectures, and then power through a week's worth of academia in a weekend, which will leave you feeling so drained that you'll want another week off.

Realistically, when they call it a "study week" as opposed to a "vacation", they mean it. :pac:

I've never had the time to study during Study Week. Or to relax. It's definitely always been 'Essay Week' for me.

    What are the hours like?
Do you spend much time in the labs?
Whats the workload like? (study, essays etc.)
What option subject did you take in first year and did you enjoy it? (an arts, physics, chemistry or computer sci?)
Any particular difficult topics in first year?
Are you able to study abroad in 3rd year?
What's the job outlook like? Do most go onto more study?
Overall, would you recommend the course?
Feel free to answer as many or few of the q's as you like, cheers!

Random question, but how strict are the pubs/clubs/SU for ID? I'll only be 17 for 1st year but still want to have a decent social life haha

I'm not promoting underage drinking at all, but if you look confident enough, you might get by alright.

They're nearly always checking for ID.
