Many casualties due to glass being blown out and now being bussed out of the area to hospital.

The Irish embassy is half a kilometre away from the blast site apparently, but all staff are safe according to The Journal.

Do they have CCTV in Oslo centre, I would imagine they'd spot something pretty quickly

According to some it seems to be a car bomb(s).

Considering Norway's role in Nato it could've been extremists. I don't think Norway has had any sort of political violence like that before?

Then again, could've been just a plain nutter.

Well there was those church burnings a few years ago but that's all in the past

(poor)attempt at humour. parodying someone who would immediately overreact against all muslims for something extremists did

    I know.

On another note, it's starting to look like a bomb.

If this was a terrorist attack (we're not 100% sure yet) and that it was perpetrated by an Islamic terrorist organisation, then there is no reason why Ireland wouldn't be attacked in the future. Although, we have to remember that Norway is in NATO and was involved in Afghanistan and Libya, so maybe Norway was a little bit more at risk of being a target than Ireland. Either way, this will mean that Ireland needs to toughen up it's security at this time.

I guess that today will be known as 22/7 (or 22/7 for Americans).

Edit: BBC is saying Norwegian Police have confirm that it was a bomb, the perpetrated is not known as of yet I believe.

We also have ISAF troops in Afghanistan, not many, but we do have some.

I would like to ban all Muslims from Ireland. Show me a country where they have integrated well and brought something positive.

Oslo has a large Islamic population albeit I think this just means terrorists can hide easy among the majority of decent ones. But I don't think jihadis need a reason beyond being a Western nation for an attack. We are all potential targets in that sense. It is just that countries like Norway, the UK, and Spain have long-standing Muslim populations and so more operatives.

Isn't Norway largely irreligious too. I mean I know at least two Norwegian special forces members who are atheists. (Great anecdotal provision of a source of statistical data there:D)

What a lovely way of viewing the incident.

I would love to hear how you describe 9/11, Madrid and London bombings...

Emmm......I'll play - Ireland. What do I win?

While we're banning people of religions that'd have planted bombs and carried out shootings in Ireland, add Catholics and Protestants to your manifesto.
