While not especially rare, from what I know, but Street Fighter 3: Third Strike on the Dreamcast seems to be a pain in the arse to track down. It's still commanding a decent price second hand too.

heres a couple of things i have that im hoping will be worth a fortune in another 20 years! some of these ive already seen on ebay for stupid money.

DC Online media kit for PS3

Fairytale fights media kit, not a great game to be honest, the kids love it though.

God of War 3 Media Kit, comes in a cool wooden box with blood slash!

GT5 Media Kit, nice tin box in a cardboard box with stuff in it.

Infamous 2 on the PS3, This one was cool, you get "lost property" envelope with a wallet, BISA card, paper clippings, ID and a recipt for a restaurant. along with a load of polaroids etc.

I just saw Okamiden for the DS going for 30 preowned, nearly bought it but there are so many games one could buy for that money, should I snap it up?

Gamestop can be terrible for getting smaller releases in. They assured me 3D Dot Game Heroes hadn't been released, only for me to walk 2 minutes down the road to HMV and buy it. Same for Solatorobo, got it in Game in Galway over the weekend, while it wasn't on Gamestop's computers. Didn't even bother looking for Okamiden in there, just went straight to HMV on the day of release.

Okamiden was ridiculous. Gamestop had dummy boxes up for weeks beforehand and when I went to buy the game it seemed none of the stores got it in.

I have Okami on both the PS2 and Wii, but never really applied myself to them, is it really worth the investment?
Maybe, getting a few bob for Red Dead on trade, could be worth the few euro in the difference.

It seems if it's not a big game then gamestop aren't going to stock it. Game have been pretty good getting niche games in, always have been for some reason.

Feck it, bought it,.12 with my.now completed Red Dead, happy with that although Portal 2 was crying as I left the shop, I had told her she was to be my next, don't worry, your time will come.

To play I think most have suggested it's pretty much more of the same as Okami - meant to be good if not all that innovative.

To buy perhaps the PAL version will be a rarity - I've yet to see the PAL version in a shop to add to the comments here. I don't think the Japanese version is going to be a future rarity - I was over just after release and shelves were full of 'em! - but maybe the English language versions will be sought after.

I must add to the condemnation of retail stores. HMV is getting awful which is surprising because only six months ago they had both great selection and great value. Gamestop is a bit better on stock - you might find a rarity buried in there - but a bit dodgy on price IMO. Game - well, Game's just crap bar the occasional bargain (they tend to get more of the rare PSP releases for some reason). You'd swear a lot of games in recent times hadn't had any sort of release if it wasn't for crawling through the online retailers!

Was thinking basically the exact same myself this afternoon, Only a month or so ago HMV had a great selection over all systems at really low prices. the prices are still coming down but the nintendo stuff is pure shovelware and the Xbox/Sony sections are mostly whatever just came out and hundreds of copies of Call of Duty/Bulletstorm/Crysis2/otherFPS.

Game are a bit better although generally more expensive although their DS selection has been the best of the 3 and Gamestop tend to have the best availability but are markedly more expensive than the other 2.

It should be said that none of them really have anything beyond the really mainstream games which is a shame and could be a mistake if retailers are trying to protect their position in the Gaming market.

I'm just trying to remember where I saw Monkeyball and Rayman for 19.99 each for the 3ds. I loved Rayman2 on the N64, one of the best looking games on the system. It's still looks good on the 3ds.

And while not quite a once and future classic, the GS in Balbriggan have Haven for the PS2 for 3 euro, worth getting for the fractal based graphics and a very good level involving raiding a tomb, with lots of nasty scarabs! I really enjoyed it, back in the day.

I was given a promo copy ahead of it's release, played it to completion and loved it.
Waited patiently for it's full release and was very surprised when it sold almost no copies.
There have been more popular doses of the pox!
I used to see it regularly in PS2 preowned racks over the years, always selling for little or nothing and even then not selling at all.
I reckon it'll be one of the best 3 euros you'll spend!
It's in your local GS, at least it was there yesterday evening, Retr0.

Well in their defense physical shops are really up **** creek at the moment. HMV, GAME etc can only get new stock once their current stock is sold. With money being tight today and a large percentage of customers purchasing online, it's very difficult for physical retailers to shift what they get in. The more games sitting on the shelf, the money cash that is tied up and unavailable to purchase new titles.

They can't afford to stock high quantities of critically acclaimed niche games that might sell to a small number of well informed gamers. When stuff like COD, HALO, FIFA and NFS come out they have to go nuts and stock the shelves high because that is what does sell no matter what and essentially is their bread and butter.

It’s a bit of a double-edged sword; we all want physical shops to have a better selection however we have to support them with our own money rather than going to online sites for everything. Online sites can usually offer games €5 - €10 cheaper sometimes and with our own money being tight, we very often have to go there.

) , I just want to point out that physical retailers probably do want to be able to offer a greater selection but with the economy the way it is, their hands are very much tied. I could go on about the overheads physical retailers have compared to online sites but I think I’ve gone off-topic enough...

From my point of view I buy precious little new games, only a handful of key titles a year do I invest the big bucks in, and so it's no surprise that there are precious few niche titles on the shelves.
That then translates to the preowned shelves, although the trade in values probably modulates effectively the number of certain games they take, as a shelf gets too many copies of, say, Force Unleashed, they lower the tradein offered and so more people take the game home instead.
I tend to see far more niche games in the preowned shelves however.
And that's where I do most of my buying, when I do buy.
I have to give a lot more thought to my purchases these days, there was a time I'd spend 100 a fortnight on gaming but now it's more like 50 a month, if that!

I've spent in the region of €50 on games retro and current in the last month or so and thats probably all I'll spend for another 2 months.

I understand obviously that the retail stores have to give shelf space to the big games that sell in large numbers as this is what keeps them going but I wonder are they really achieving anything by having the same 10 used copies of Call of Duty 4 on the shelf week after week? its rare to see a copy of Castlevania on PS3 new or used in a retail store and I don't believe that to be a Niche game.

At the moment the Retailers are only still going because ultimately the big 3 need them to move their hardware and big titles but the narrower and narrower their range becomes the easier it is for the hardware manufactures to eliminate them from the loop and move to either digital distribution or non specialist retailers.

Its obvious how tightly the 3 retailers are being squeezed, game prices are through the floor and still the stock doesn't seem to be moving, I wonder will we see one or more of them disappear in the next 12 months.

"niche" was probably a poor choice of word on my part. I still see Castlevania everywhere I go at the moment. HMV had it for €13 last time I was in there. Whether or not it's still there when pay-day hits next week is the real question

That's one positive thing I've noticed this past few months; prices are dropping radically to shift stock and clear shelves once a certain amount of time passes. I picked up Vanquish (360), Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (360) and Super Smash Bros Brawl for €10 each earlier this year and Mirror's Edge for €3 (all new sealed copies). It's worth keeping a close eye on shops I guess :cool:

The HMV's in Dublin city have gotten pretty bad recently, truth be told. I went looking for those 3 euro Mirror's Edges when I heard about 'em, but not one to be found on Henry or Grafton Street!

Personally, I don't buy used games at all unless they're ebay / older consoles. I have more allegiances to developers than retailers. I have no problem paying full price for something like Child of Eden, although will most definitely wait for 'bigger' titles to come down in price (waiting a few weeks for Dead Space 2 resulted in a twenty euro saving). So if I can afford it and a game deserves a full price purchase (less and less these days, alas), I usually will, but given price drops it's definitely tempting to just sit it out for around a month and reap the benefits!

I saw them in the HMV Grafton street when I said about them being €3. Did you look at the back of the store? They weren't with the rest of the xbox games.

I wonder how much Gamestop would give you in trade in value?

I saw Castlevania in the Swords branch of HMV last week if that helps, although I'd ring ahead if you were thinking of going in, that's too good a bargain to just let sit there... like I did...
