    About system requirements.

Lion just feels like a tweaked version of Snow Leopard, though it's definitely a tad more RAM intensive.

From what I've seen, I would be cautious about upgrading to Lion with less than 4 gigs of RAM. Either way, RAM is dirt cheap these days so you have no excuse to have any less than 4 gigs.

Personally, I wouldn't be in a hurry to put Lion on anything less than 2.4 C2D, at least not until it has been out a while and other people have "guinea pigged" it.

I'm running Lion on a 2.8ghz C2D iMac with 4 gigs of ram.

Some things are fast, other things are slow. I suspect performance will also improve as bugs are ironed out. (and there are plenty of bugs still, especially when it comes to Full Screen apps, Safari, Mission Control, mouse swiping)

Boot up time is around 26 seconds, not bad. - about the same as S-Lep.
iTunes loads in 1 or 2 dock bounces. grand. - about the same as S-Lep.

Safari is the same. 1 or 2 dock bounces.

However once open, both iTunes and Safari feel just the slightest bit more sluggish than using them on Snow Leopard on the same machine.

I suspect things like Full Screen swiping, mission control, and some UI tweaks ultimately take up more free RAM than has ever been used in OS X.

Let me add though, that Lion is really growing on me (despite my previous rant), much more than Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard ever did.

Full screen Safari is very nice, especially when coupled with Magic Mouse and "Better Touch Tool", which allows me to not only cycle through tabs with my mouse, but even open and close tabs quite easily from mouse gestures.

    Just on the specs:

The Apple website isn't exactly bursting with information about what you need to run Lion properly.

I have a late model of the now "old" mac mini, with the 2.26ghz intel chip and the standard 2gb of RAM. I bought it at a small discount literally the day before the newer model came out about a year ago.

Anyone tested Lion on the macmini yet? I'd be interested to hear how its working out for you.

    Thanks.

Really nice little feature of full screen Safari - You can drag the screen edge in from the side.

This, combined with double-tap focusing, and Apple +/- zooming, allow you to create your ideal reading space for posts and articles, as well as allowing you to effectively cut out all the sidebar crap on most Wordpress sites.

    example:

    .. becomes ...

I assume that's a Core 2 Duo, yeah? It should be okay.

It is. Snow Leopard runs great on it.

I installed it on a number of old model minis in work. I think they were 2.2Ghz w/4 GB RAM. Worked fine with a clean install. I'm planning on installing at home on my 2Ghz mini and my 2Ghz MacBook. I'll be doing a time machine backup first though.

I have the same mac mini as waynegalway and am definitely unsure about the upgrade especially considering that adding ram to that version of the mini is not for amateurs(like me). I'm itching to upgrade but reckon it might be worth waiting a week or two for the user reviews to come out.

I'd swear they take down the stores just for effect. I'm sure they can update the store without having to take it down

Any major functionality changes in Lion?

From what I've read it's just a few iOS bells and whistles added onto Snow Leopard - not really a major leap for Mac OS?

A steal at only €23.99. I wouldn't of upgraded only for such a low price.

Downloading now. Considering whether to do a straight upgrade or give my 3 year old iMac its first full format.

I was going to upgrade to Lion on my MBP to see what it's like before updating my iMac later on - does anyone know how many uses the App Store purchase gives you ? I tried reading the T&C but I don't speak legalese.

Apple will be selling Lion on a USB drive for twice the price starting in August.
