God no, I'm even thinking of taking a year out, have to pay for course myself and use hols as study leave. Found it a tough year financially. But I'll see, might win the lotto:D

I'm in the same boat we do have the option of working up extra hols for the exams so thats a plus but it is very tough going financially! I will probably take a 12 month between Part 2 and Part 3 aswell! For now we can celebrate though...well done!

I dont know how people do the part 3 in the Autumn after taking the part 2 in the summer.

The part 2 is difficult but the step up to part 3 is enormous. Its like there should be another year in between put they just put it all onto the part 3. You are examinable on everything you have learned since part 1 which is great fun!

After sitting my accounting exams, i can honestly say they come nowhere near as difficult as the part 3 exams!!

    Anyways.....congrats to everyone

    Hi part two people,

I've missed quite a few of my lectures so far on part two and wondered if anyone knows if the format for the CA exam for Business Taxes is the same as previous exams? i.e. mostly based around chapter 3 and capital allowances? I know the official line is that chapters 1-6 and 8 are examinable but previous papers seemed to be predominantly focussed on allowable deductions.

I suppose my main question is if the chapters on loss relief and charges etc are going to be examined....

    Thanks!

Missed most of the lectures myself due to illness but im taking it that this exam will be very similar to the previous 2 as out of all those chapters I cant see what else they would ask unless they decide to go for theory based questions in which case I will be in big trouble! :(

Good stuff, thanks. There are 3 previous exams and a sample paper which seem to cover the same issues so hopefully they're a good guide. Good luck tomorrow.

I am strongly thinking of doing these exams..I passed the FAEs but it was a few years since I did the Masters before that, and degree too. So it was mental trying to do FAEs with such gaps, but luckily got through them. I think if I was to ever do the tax ones it should be asap.

Can anyone let me know of their experience with these exams having sat the ACA exams..

Should I do the Part 1s as they are examinable in Part 3. Bear in mind I have not looked at that material in years...Or can I just get the manual and read it..

I really do not want to pay more cash but don't want to be struggling later on. If anyone has the manuals can the email them to me please. Also any past papers would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance...

Yes :D The lectures are once sometimes twice a month all day Saturday and Sunday so you will need to be disciplined, its very tempting to stay in bed on a cold sunday morning during the winter :)
The weekends that you don't have lectures will prob be spent catching up on study etc but the months go by very fast and before you know it you are finished so the only advice I can give is be disciplined and stay on top of the work as much as possible because its very detailed and the exams are tough and i've only done the Part 1 exams sitting Part 2 in August!

If you are exempt from Part 1's I would recommend getting hold of the manuals and reading through them as the material is examinable at Part 2&3 also. It would be good to refresh your memory before you start the Part 2's as you wont have time once you get into it !

    Best of Luck

    Hi Guys,

Hope to qualify with CPA next month, and thinking of pursuing Tax as I have always found it interesting and enjoyed the study more so than the other subjects.

Are the AITI exams much tougher than CPA or do they involve the same amount of study and dedication???

I've heard they are extremely hard to pass. My job is really flexible so study time is not an issue.

    I am working in Industry.

We are planning to start a family next year and I'm concerned if they are that difficult I might just leave it.

Any response will help, thanks :)

Passed Indirect went down in Personal by 2%. Blaming a poor Continuous Assessment for that. Ah well, have to sit it once more.

Well done to everyone who passed.

It's not about the study- its about the application.

Go back as far as you can and do past papers- do one years sitting a day- i.e two sets of past papers.

I actually failed tax management the first time I sat it and after going over past papers back a number of years I came back and got in the 60s

The difference is you get good at all the practical things you are doing in the exam, picking up the books, finding the relevant sections and extracting the answer and repeating, all the while getting faster and more familiar with the legislation. When you study you tend to compartmentalise things, i.e you are learning about shares, and only shares but shares interact with pensions, share for share relief for CGT, transfer of undertakings, retirement relief etc and come up as a small section of a question.

Unless you are adept at the procedure of answering these questions and practicing it you will not do well- hense the high fail rate.

I learned the hard way. Past Papers over and over and over until you almost know the sections off.

    Small question.

Should I hold off sending in the membership form until the last moment. Just wondering if they cut off TaxFind straight away once you become a member ?
