    Hi everyone,

I think this question has already been asked but did not see anyone answering it.

Does this qualification stand by its own?

Is it well recognized in Ireland and perhaps in other parts of EU?

    Thanks.

It is a stand alone qualification but the tax exams are generally taken as a supplementary qualification to accountancy or law qualifications.

AFAIK it is recognised in the UK, not sure about the rest of the EU.

"The AITI qualification has official recognition under EU Directive 89/48 thus enabling holders, on meeting certain criteria, to practice not only in Ireland but also in other EU Member States."

I googled and found the above as i knew there was some EU directive in place

I am quite interested in the AITI Qualification. I have no qualifications in accounting. Would it be rather pointless to consider this course without having an accounting background. Is there potentially work/prospects for those with AITI alone?

    Yes.

There are more and more people who are solely AITI qualified with no ACA/ACCA qualification etc...

Don't let the fact that you don't have an accounting background put you off.

I just enrolled on Part Two course.

I am exempt from Part one exams.

Can people tell me any advice or tips to prepare for the Part 2s..

No need to tell me to study etc lol

But serious need some advice, thanks.

Secondly why is it so hard and slow to download material from Tax Find. Does anyone have the Part 1 material on PDF that they can email me. it takes forever to try to get it.

Practice as many exam questions as you can. Exam technique is the key to passing.

The institute changed the layout of tax find about two years, since then I've also had similar problems downloading and viewing documents. What web browser are you using? I find IE is best, other browsers run into difficulties when using tax find.

Read the manuals and make notes then.............

Practicing past papers without looking at the manuals for guidance

You will get very familiar with the legislation that way

    Hi,

Does anybody know of someone who gives Business Tax Grinds in/near Galway. I have just started Part 3 and I need help - possibly on a weekly basis until May.

    Thanks

Firstly the ITI has a list of individuals who give grinds, some of whom would have a background in BT. Pretty reputable list so best to contact the ITI for this list.

Secondly, a few words of advice from a previous part 3 student who failed first time around and passed the repeat.

Getting grinds now is giving up before you've even started. Its tempting to be intimidated by the course and think ok ill pay someone to make me learn tax for an hour. A few grinds I could understand- But weekly grinds until May is a bit ridiculous not to mention costly. In saying that, there are certain areas of the course that students may benefit from a grind on and so it may be better to first review the core exam areas like groups, international tax, Re-orgs. For each area, have a quick read through the manual and have a detailed look/attempt at the exam questions on that topic. Then get a grind if you feel you still need a bit of help. I know I could have benefited from a grind on amalgamations but I would have gotten way more out of that grind if I'd attempted the exam Qs first.

So if i were you, Id get familiar with the key exam areas, reference my legislation really well but then focus mainly on exam papers. Slot in the grinds thereafter where needed. I dont work in Business tax nor am I accountant so I didnt have much working in my favour when sitting this paper. But I do know how hard Business Tax is and what worked for me in the repeat. As it happens I didnt get grinds, just focused on exam papers and a well referenced legislation- Felt I'd benefit more from this.

    All the best.

Thanks a million - great reply and alot of very valid points!

I just find Business Tax really hard and I don't even have a very good basic knowledge of it (exempt of Part 1 and its a couple of years since i did Part 2) When I study it I come across more and more stuff that i don't know!

Anyways - I will follow your advice for sure. I just thought it would be best not to put my head in the sand and to get organised now with a few grinds for guidance.

There isn't anyone in Galway listed on the AITI website for grinds.

Appreciate the advice alot - thanks.

    Hi there!
I am repeating ABT and PATAE in Dublin but haven't been to any of the lectures yet! Are they really bad? I wasn't in Dublin last year so I was hoping that they would be good!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27 Coffee Addict

ABT is the guy from last year. I dont know what happened to the Group 1 girl, but, all I will say is that I wish she was doing it this year!....nuf said!?

It looks difficult. Haven't done a lot with it yet but there seems to be a lot of roads to go down with the answers. It looks like Group relief and the use of the losses held in the shoe company will form a big part of the file note. Have a feeling this is gonna ruin my xmas holidays:(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6 wweleven

I only had a quick read of it so far but i agree that I am cancelling Christmas this year!! Hope to have a proper look at it this weekend. Agree about the group relief/losses too. Hopefully we are on the right track!!

Hi has anyone looked at the PART 2 Home Assignment???

    hey eomahony

ya had a look during the week. I've started the file note.
I think there's an issue with the shares given to employes in plel ltd,the car given to tim is a restrictive covenant I think and there's a few thing involved in the new technical officers remuneration especially the relocation expenses and inducement payments

if I'm wrong in any of that will someone let me know thanks

Yeah have looked and done some research. Any ideas what they want re the sale of the IP? My first thought was set off against the cap loss re building but then I heard suggestions of leasing the IP instead of selling! Any thoughts?

    Hey Santino,

I agree with your thoughts on the above. Have you found much with regards to shares being given to employees.. and also with regards to relocation expenses it says in the case study that in addition to the 3,000 given to Jean for relocation expenses that they are also going to pay for her rent in dublin for 4 months. Under the relocation expenses it provides for 3 months rent. will you be saying that for the final month she will have to pay tax on the rent paid.

Guys. How are you dealing with the pay restructuring arrangement with the wage cuts. Am I missing something? Could you use section 202? Or is just full tax on the one off payments.

Hello i was looking at sec 202.. i would think that we could use this section...I am just a bit confused about the legislation.. must the agreement be between the company and a trade union??

the payment of €1,250 and €2,500 cover the allowed amount so i think that hte payment could be tax free..

I don't think section 202 applies, this only applies to companies who applied for a certificate before 2004 I think. Anybody think that sacrifice is relevant?
