Put it in your hand luggage?

If it doesn't fit you could carry it through security and stick it down the back of your tshirt/tucked into your jeans when going through the gate.

Though if you already have a suitcase booked then surely you can put it in that?

You should be able to fit it in hand luggage if you bring a loose gym bag or rucksack type thing rather than a case.

thanx for the replies people, i am only going with hand luggage so not paying 60 euro to check in one case, the loose gym bag sounds like a good idea, my only concern would be if they see a tennis racket as a potential weapon, has anyone actually brought one in their hand luggage? or as goat says i could stuff it down the back of my t shirt, but would they think that was a bit dodgy too? I dont want to end up leaving it at the airport if i cant get it on board.

I don't think you'll have a problem with them viewing it as a weapon, the only problem might be if they think it's too big dimension-wise for hand luggage. I was going to suggest holding it inside your coat or something for boarding but I wouldn't actually attempt it.It could look like you were concealing a "potential weapon". Might be worth ringing Dublin or Shannon Airport and making sure you can bring it through.
