Any way to get email alert - use v'fone payg i-net for gmail access

As the title suggests, I have vodafone payg and use mobile internet solely to access web based gmail. I don't suppose there is some way to have an automatic alert whenever there is new mail?

set text alert for mail received

divert from gmail to above
