Cant wait for this again this year. Was gutted to miss out last year through injury so really looking forward to it.My modest goal is to do it in under 40mins which i know some of you guys reading this could do no problem.I'll be up v.early in the morning when its quiet in the couple of weeks before it running the route.
By the way,i assume the route is the same as always yes?

I'd kill for 40 minutes or less to be honest:) I think the route has remained the same, didn't hear that it was changed anyways.

It can be tough alright, winner of Headford 8K last week ran it in 24:59.

It gives us something to aim for though :D

    Hi Aiel,

Yes, to confirm, the SOG will follow the usual route again this year, starting and finishing at Claddagh/South Park. See official route-map on the host club Galway City Harriers AC's web-site at:

    http://www.galwaycityharriers.com/images/sog-2011-map

Thanks to Brutes1 for promoting the race via this forum!

The race is indeed filling up again nicely at the usual rate with over 50% of the places filled as of LAST Friday.

Covering the headford 10k course on skates or blades in under 25m wouldnt be as easy as it sounds i reckon............

Ran the course last night, its a nice course, bit deceptive going up Dr. Mannix Road, but anyone looking for a nice race on a Saturday evening, you can't go wrong here.

Also they are looking for volunteers to marshall the course on the day, so if anyone on here is in Galway on the day and wants to help, they can get in contact through here http://www.galwaycityharriers.com/contacts

Could be worth having a word with the priest to say mass a bit quicker this year and avoid parishioners driving out on to the course:)

Any one else get an e-mail from runireland? Saying that the late fee was 25 and having to pay an extra 7 euros?

ya i did , it did indicate that it was only €18 before processing the transaction ?

Surely they can't expect to charge more after the transaction has been processed? If there was an error in the original charge then it was their fault.

My wife entered on the 17th July which was advertised as the last day for the standard entry and was charged €18. Now she's being asked to pay an additional €7 which seems ridiculous.

Dont pay it.I got the same email. I entered on time also for 18e. They have some cheek expecting us now to pay extra. I replyed back saying i was not paying any extra but no response. Doubt its anything to do with galway harriers. Seems very unprofessional to say the least from Runireland.

i paid that day because it confirmed they were only goin to charge me €18 and paid for another two peolpe as well because of this , i will leave the paymt for the moment and just wait and see what happens

I am did not pay the extra money yet. I will wait and see. But no where did it indicate to pay 25. Not on the e-mail receipt or throught the check out process.

Thank you for entering the Corrib Oil Streets of Galway through
RunIreland.com. The late entry fee as advertised on the website is €25. A
small number of entries were processed by RunIreland at €18 which leaves a balance of €7. Unfortunately, your entry was one of those affected - even though
you confirmed your order for €25 your debit/credit card was processed
for €18.

I just joined to reply to this thread - i got the email part of which i have copied in. This is very bad on runirelands behalf and very unprofessional!!
The sentence in bold above is the part that is completely and utterly untrue and is soooo unprofessional for them to have sent out. At no point during the process did I see 25 euro fee ANYWHERE none the less confirm 25 euro!!

Runireland have made this mistake and are trying to push the blame onto the competitors!

Definetely not paying this and I hope nobody else does either!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,900 ✭✭✭Seres

Tringirl , that is true whats your saying , during processing the transaction from start to finish they never indicated that it would be €25 so it is appears misleading of them to say otherwise
If it had been a case of confirming the order for €25 and only €18 was deducted from my card i would willingly pay but i confirmed completion of my order based on a charge of €18 . It only €7 but just a small matter of principle . I think this bitter pill runireland might have to swallow .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 Tringirl

Exactly - I would have no problem paying the 25 euro if it had shown on the webpage but I never saw any amount for 25 so to then get an email saying you confirmed 25 but we only charged you 18 and that you can check your bank statement to confirm this was very strange!!!

Never once was 25 confirmed at any point and I was surprised such a badly worded email was sent out to ask people to pay an extra amount which they were never asked to do at the booking process.

Hopefully they will know better next time.

There is a list of names entered so check to see if you are entered. Seems like there wont be a problem.

Runirelands site. Has anybody replied to their mail? Seems they have gone very quiet. Basically they chanced their arm on this thinking we would pay. Last time I will use them thats for sure.
