Cant wait for this again this year. Was gutted to miss out last year through injury so really looking forward to it.My modest goal is to do it in under 40mins which i know some of you guys reading this could do no problem.I'll be up v.early in the morning when its quiet in the couple of weeks before it running the route.
By the way,i assume the route is the same as always yes?

I'd kill for 40 minutes or less to be honest:) I think the route has remained the same, didn't hear that it was changed anyways.

It can be tough alright, winner of Headford 8K last week ran it in 24:59.

It gives us something to aim for though :D

    Hi Aiel,

Yes, to confirm, the SOG will follow the usual route again this year, starting and finishing at Claddagh/South Park. See official route-map on the host club Galway City Harriers AC's web-site at:

    http://www.galwaycityharriers.com/images/sog-2011-map

Thanks to Brutes1 for promoting the race via this forum!

The race is indeed filling up again nicely at the usual rate with over 50% of the places filled as of LAST Friday.

Covering the headford 10k course on skates or blades in under 25m wouldnt be as easy as it sounds i reckon............

Ran the course last night, its a nice course, bit deceptive going up Dr. Mannix Road, but anyone looking for a nice race on a Saturday evening, you can't go wrong here.

Also they are looking for volunteers to marshall the course on the day, so if anyone on here is in Galway on the day and wants to help, they can get in contact through here http://www.galwaycityharriers.com/contacts

Could be worth having a word with the priest to say mass a bit quicker this year and avoid parishioners driving out on to the course:)

Any one else get an e-mail from runireland? Saying that the late fee was 25 and having to pay an extra 7 euros?

ya i did , it did indicate that it was only €18 before processing the transaction ?

Surely they can't expect to charge more after the transaction has been processed? If there was an error in the original charge then it was their fault.

My wife entered on the 17th July which was advertised as the last day for the standard entry and was charged €18. Now she's being asked to pay an additional €7 which seems ridiculous.

Dont pay it.I got the same email. I entered on time also for 18e. They have some cheek expecting us now to pay extra. I replyed back saying i was not paying any extra but no response. Doubt its anything to do with galway harriers. Seems very unprofessional to say the least from Runireland.

i paid that day because it confirmed they were only goin to charge me €18 and paid for another two peolpe as well because of this , i will leave the paymt for the moment and just wait and see what happens

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 153 ✭✭DriverMad

I am did not pay the extra money yet. I will wait and see. But no where did it indicate to pay 25. Not on the e-mail receipt or throught the check out process.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 Tringirl

Thank you for entering the Corrib Oil Streets of Galway through
RunIreland.com. The late entry fee as advertised on the website is €25. A
small number of entries were processed by RunIreland at €18 which leaves a balance of €7. Unfortunately, your entry was one of those affected - even though
you confirmed your order for €25 your debit/credit card was processed
for €18.

I just joined to reply to this thread - i got the email part of which i have copied in. This is very bad on runirelands behalf and very unprofessional!!
The sentence in bold above is the part that is completely and utterly untrue and is soooo unprofessional for them to have sent out. At no point during the process did I see 25 euro fee ANYWHERE none the less confirm 25 euro!!

Runireland have made this mistake and are trying to push the blame onto the competitors!

Definetely not paying this and I hope nobody else does either!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,900 ✭✭✭Seres

Tringirl , that is true whats your saying , during processing the transaction from start to finish they never indicated that it would be €25 so it is appears misleading of them to say otherwise
If it had been a case of confirming the order for €25 and only €18 was deducted from my card i would willingly pay but i confirmed completion of my order based on a charge of €18 . It only €7 but just a small matter of principle . I think this bitter pill runireland might have to swallow .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 Tringirl

Exactly - I would have no problem paying the 25 euro if it had shown on the webpage but I never saw any amount for 25 so to then get an email saying you confirmed 25 but we only charged you 18 and that you can check your bank statement to confirm this was very strange!!!

Never once was 25 confirmed at any point and I was surprised such a badly worded email was sent out to ask people to pay an extra amount which they were never asked to do at the booking process.

Hopefully they will know better next time.

Runirelands site. Has anybody replied to their mail? Seems they have gone very quiet. Basically they chanced their arm on this thinking we would pay. Last time I will use them thats for sure.

I sent an email but got no reply. I just checked the entrants list and my name is there, looks like they will have to take this one on the chin.

What do people generally eat on the day of a race... for an race in the evening

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 501 ✭✭✭Aiel

It depends on how serious your taking the race.Generally just keep yourself hydrated all day and dont eat anything too substantial after around 4pm.For most races avoid junk food for a day or 2 before but thats just if your taking it serious enough.Im running the route early tomorow morning, cant wait for the race:).

Hi Guys, I missed that thread and I am away at the moment so only got a quick breifing about what happened by the team over the phone.

There was a mistake on the price change at a certain date from one price to the new price on our system which can happened and we apologies for it.

A few people entered in the meantime and after discussing with the race organisers we decided to send an email to the participants who did pay the full fee to pay the extra euros as everybody else did.

It might no make everybody happy, which is undertsandable but to be fair the price change was advertise for months in advance on the race organiser site and runireland. It is not runireland loosing the money but the event organiser as we only take the bank charges and admin fee.

So there is no conspiarcy, of people trying to take advantage of others etc... we just want to rectify something which should have been normaly happening.

We are just human and liek everybody do mistakes sometimes, lucky enough it only happens rarely. and we apologies for it.

It was just easier to ask for a top up than refunding everybody, cancelling their entries and ask them to enter again. We tried to find the best solution we could at the time and keep their entry to the the race secure.

if you have any personal query about yoru entry email me on info@runireland.com and you can check on the participant entry list here :
    http://www.runireland.com/node/10605/entrants_search

    I hope this help

    Seb

    Thanks for coming on seb.

I think the issue Was the wording of the email that went out which said you confirmed the price but run ireland charged less than the price - this was totally incorrect and just started the whole thing off on completely the wrong footing placing some of the blame with the participant when it was nothing to do them.

I assume if your name is on the entrants list whether or not you paid the extra that everything is ok?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 504 ✭✭✭locteau

Yes you still on the list,

I agree with email wording, I suppose I was away and they were a bit underpanic when they discover what happened and just tried to solve it ASAP.

it does not justify anything but it was a mistake on I am sure if any of us was working for runireland and saw this as an employee you would also have been worry at the time.

    Seb

early indications are for 10-15 kmph west/south west light/breeze.
if this is the case would'nt be too bad. as homestretch would be ok.

i just googled a few long range forecasts. and these are sure to be right are'nt they.

I didnt get round to running the route,i did a less intense run on the Prom as i was feeling a tightness in my calf muscle.Have done the route a few times. The route is flat and fast for the most part. The gradual hill at Dr Mannix Rd near the stadium can catch a few ppl out with how long it seems to be but apart from that its a good flat course that everyone approves of.I hope theres a wind at our backs when we turn onto the Prom at Leisureland for the final 2km's-ish into the finish.I seem to remember 2 years ago there was a rare flat calm,no cooling breeze at all and muggy as hell so i hope its a bit cooler this time.

    Caro2

Run packs can be collected from the club house on the claddagh on friday from 3 to 7 and saturday between 10 and 5. Am open to correction on this, but i think thats what was on the GCH website.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,863 ✭✭✭RobAMerc

I am writing this as I am totally disgusted by the sneaky email I received from Run Ireland today and there is NO WAY I am paying the extra €7 simply because of the way this was handled. RunIreland are turning into the Ticketmaster of sporting events - hungry money grabbers.

The email I received was deliberately designed to con people into sanctioning the debit of an extra €7 from peoples accounts in a VERY underhand manner.

I realise a mistake was made and wouldn't have been overly put out by the request but the way it was done was shocking and dishonest. I didn't make the mistake in the first place - RunIreland have no right to ask me to cough up the rest and the manner in which it was done appalling.

If the mods are ok with it I will post the email here to let people judge for themselves ?

I'm still getting the emails too even though I signed up on the last day of the early bird price, confirmed by my receipt and the closing dates on the Harriers website as asked by Run Ireland to check...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 Tringirl

Completely agree with everything you have said RobAmerc - the whole thing has just been handled so badly!! I went onto the link they provided - if you simply put in your name and email and click submit do they take the money off you without confirming payment details etc??

Ridiclious - its completely their fault and trying to put the blame onto participants is awful and it really puts a dampner on the whole day to be honest!!!
