Recommend a beginner's Java programming book

It's for a 14 year old who is at the installed-the-compiler-what-now-stage. Anyone recommend a good book for the complete beginner?

Edit: Was just talking to him and he says he has jGRASP, if that's relevant.

very helpful for a beginner. You can watch the lectures and download all the papers and do it yourself. It starts explaining programming with java as like you control a little robot and make him do things with instructions.
Hope it helps as some people not into books that much

Java in easy Steps by Mike McGrath I think covers the basics of java pretty good and easy way, it thought me alot.

Watch on youtube thenewboston videos for java beginners there are 80 of them, which covers all the basics.

JGrasp is fine at the moment but i think the time will come that a program Eclipse will come in handy.

I'd suggest Head First Java as a great beginner book.

It may be a bit too "beginnery" if you already up to speed with the concepts in OO programming. IF not it's an excellent introduction to those for any language

Also not great if you want a crash course in Java.
