I'm running very low on HDD space on my MacBook. Currently hovering about 9GB free. (I have tried to regain space, even downloaded Disk Inventory X to help.)

Does anyone have any idea how much space would be required on the HDD to allow you to install Lion?

I'd say 9 gb is borderline. Can you not move some data off to an external drive, install, Burn a Lion install DVD, delete the Lion image and restore your data.

Also you'll need a Core 2 Duo or better.

You can upgrade an existing install to Lion which should preserve all of your settings

Hearing lots of dissatisfied comments relating to this - not counting the useless Jesus Diaz of Gizmodo. Don't think I'll be jumping to upgrade for a while yet.

They only asked for Lion compatible App Store submissions yesterday so I'd be a bit surprised if they're ready to roll by tonight. But stranger things have happened.

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath. I still think it will probably be July 31st. But - just case - I've got 8GB to free up between now and 1am. :D

You mean you're not taking the word of a "close contact at Apple" as gospel?

Maybe this is a stupid question. Is there any point in me upgrading to Lion? Im currently on Leopard and I have a 2ghz iMac with 4gb RAM. Dual Core.

Dont fancy upgrading for the sake of it if it results in system performance deteriorating.

I can't imagine there will be an deterioration. I would expect the opposite.

You can always wait and see what the reviews are like and maybe pick it up around the 10.7.2 or 10.7.3 mark. At the end of the day it's only €24.

Lion doesn't support Core 1 Duos, I'm afraid. You need a minimum of a Core 2 Duo. Is it a 1 or a 2 that you have? And you have to upgrade to Snow Leopard first, which is a worthy upgrade in itself due to all optimisation. It's quite a bit faster and smoother than Leopard and contains a lot of bug fixes.

I've been reading mixed reports about Lion's performance, so I may actually hold off upgrading for a while.

I've been using the GM for about a week, and there is no doubt, on my MacBook, Lion (especially Safari) is far faster than SL. 4GB of RAM, 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo.

Lol, you weren't saying that at 1am

No, but I was reading about it then and lot of people aren't too thrilled with the GM. I can live with a few bugs but not a reduction in performance. It seems it's a lot heaver on RAM as well. I'll wait for the full reviews and decide. I may still need to get a larger hard drive between now and then anyway.

Yeah I'm not willing to sacrifice performance. None of the improvements look that interesting to me apart from mail.
