There's a strange, high pitched, intermittent whirring noise coming from around the passenger footwell area recently. It sounds like one of those 50's flying saucers :pac:.

The last owner (a friend of mine) replaced that wheel hub (with what may have been a s/h scrapyard one), and one of the suspension links (the upper link, I think). When I bought the car, the upper-link needed replacement (knocking sound when going over potholes etc.), but my mechanic (also a friend) said that it would be no problem if I left it as it is: no safety repercussions, and no ill-affect on any other suspension parts or steering.

    So, two questions:
    (1) Is the whirring an indication that the hub is on the way out?
    (2) Is it okay to leave the dodgy suspension link like that. (It passed the NCT last year, although the "slippage" (?) from the wheel with the dodgy link was at the maximum permitted value (14)).

I have a similar noise from my P11-144 primera(which is same car underneath).

it is like abs pump kicks in for a short time from passenger side front suspension area. I suspect cracked abs rings which is common for these cars. But abs works fine and no abs light on dash which may point another issue

    it happens
    - everytime I move car out from parking spots.
    - sometimes when front tires hit speed bumps or uneven road surfaces.
    - no noise on level surface

    is your scenario similar ?

No, I don't think my scenario is similar:

No, just when I'm driving along, and only intermittently.

No, I've only noticed it about three times, starting about a week ago, and it always happened on level surface.
