I know you probably have your mind made up, but would a Volvo S80 or the new SAAB 9-5 be in the running?

An Insignia or Mondeo in drag isn't really comparable IMO and not really in the same league unfortunately.

I think the MB200 has leatherette as standard, they call it MB tex. The E class looks the best of the three imo.

What about the Jag XF 2.2d?
    Any chance they'd allow it?

    That's the old model.

I was going to be smart and link to the C7 product guide, but it's not up on the Audi website. Can that be sorted soon please Audi?

I have it on e-mail in work, but that's no real use.

Bluetooth, Leather, MFSW are all standard. Not 100% sure about USB, but it's more than likely there.

Probably not, but unless more money than sense very few are going to spend much more than the base prices in this country...

Yep . . . can't seem to find the Irish spec anywhere. . Be very grateful if you can post or PM when you get back to work email ? . .

The A6 is just so.... bland though. The new one even looks awkward where the old one at least looked elegant.

I personally think the S80 D3 would be worth looking at (new 2.0 litre 5 cylinder turbodiesel). Either that or it would be a toss up between an XF/520d for me.

Big +1 on that. Audi have played it too safe with the new A6. All their range look so similar now. Saw a new A8 this morning and from the distance I hadn't a clue if it was the new A6 or an A8.

I would certainly give the S80 a try when I am changing again. They are a savage car and totally rare compared the VAG stuff.

    New A8 is disgusting IMO.

Quite a strange looking car in the skin. Just doesn't work at all.

OP I'd look into a 520d or the forthcoming ZF diesel.

Most recent C7 A6 product guide that I have attached.

Standard specification is pretty good, but I would be tempted to upgrade the wheels if the budget allows - just to make it look like it's not a totally standard car.

Didn't get a very long drive in the 2.0Tdi, but it did drive well and the engine has power all the way through the range rather than the big lump of torque you used to get from VAG engines, then nothing after that.

Multitronic 2.0Tdi is now available. It's €2,800 on top of the manual. Really wish they'd put the S-Tronic box with the cars instead though, I'm not a big fan of the Multitronic.

If you are crusing up and down Motorways and dual carriageways mainly, the A6 is a more comfortable cruiser than the 5 series. If you like to attack the bends, the 5 series is the one to go for.

If you have grey hair, are nearing retirement, and love wallowy understeer, the E Class is the way to go :D

Neither hold their value - so accountants don't like them. Saab 9-5 with delivery mileage and top spec can be got for £22k in UK at the moment (list £31k)

This will be the car of choice next year. Its near perfect. Stylish enough for the under 40's, enough class for the over 40's. Not pretentious like a BMW (apologies to bmw drivers) - simply oozes class.

Coming with auto as standard, av. 55mpg (don't be asking me the metric equiv - I'm over 40) and priced at 45k, its maybe one to suggest as its not on the market til later in the year and will hold its value superbly. (thats what the accoutant wants)

Suppose no chance of a DB9?

No new car keeps its money, to think it even could is a fallacy. Audi themselves reakon their current A6 that retails at 40.5 will be worth under 14 in three years. Thats over 25k gone in 3 years on what is basically just a mid level saloon. See here for details http://www.audi.ie/etc/medialib/ngw/ie/misc.Par.0031.File.pdf/audi_pcp_brochure.pdf
To pick one up you need a 12k deposit and 36 monthly payments of 529 euro giving it back at the end of the term.
Your no less likely to loose ones shirt on a Jag XF, probably more so, the fuel economy figures are virtually irrelevent with 8k + a year lost unless doing starship miles. Will be much more important to someone who buys used in 5+years though in fairness. Still if the accountant believes in smoke and mirrors then good for you if your not paying for it or his advice:)

Did a bit more digging last week and the 2.2 XF that comes in at €45,000 is an SE spec, so it's not quite up to the same standard as the entry level 3.0d for standard kit.

Half Leather / Half Alcantara seats
    Part Electric Seats
    Different wood trim
    Different Wheels
    No Nav
But it does still get Xenon lights

The Luxury model comes in at €49,295, which is over €6,000 less than the 3.0d.

Hopefully it will sell well, but I think not having full leather is a bit of a disappointment. I would have gone full leather and drop the Xenon's to compete directly with the 5 Series and A6.

I agree. If you are buy any new or relatively new car, you are nearly always going to lose your shirt. The fact is that all cars depreciate, staggeringly.

Not everyone wants full leather, so I think it's nice to see for a change.

I just dropped back the new A6 and it was fantastic.
Looks great with the right wheels and drives lovely.
Merc is for old old people, E class is bouncy, wallowy and goes straight on at the first hint of a corner
520 is nice but getting a bit common now plus the A6 has a little better entry equipment.
Out of the three it's the A6 for me. BTW you need to tell them you want USB port in other wise they fit AUX.
There was no USB port in the one I had which was a 3.0tdi Quattro with air suspension and €46,000 worth of options, RRP of €104,000! Audi know how to charge for options lol

2 x SD Card readers in the radio, and I-Pod connectivity through the MMI in the glovebox mean you don't need USB ;)

What is the MMI in the glovebox. . is this an Apple connection . . will it charge my ipod and allow me to browse on the info screen ?

Am really liking the spec of this car!

Ahh but I like my little USB key filled with music. BTW the MMI can control an iPad too, shame there's no room for it.
6 disk DVD changer in the glove box of mine :D

Last few A4's that came in had the cable in the glovebox. MMI has a strange connector, but the Audi Cable connects to your I-POD. Charges the I-POD and you can control it via the steering wheel controls.

OP - If you have any specific questions on the car, let me know as I got one in today that's going out on Thursday morning.

MMI is in the Armrest on the new A6, and the cable came in the glovebox. This is a 2.0Tdi 177ps SE Manual with metallic paint as the only option.
