    Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone could tell me where i can find the computer id for my laptop. It's a requirement to authorise some software i need to use but everything i try keeps resulting in a message stating that id is not in the correct format???

I'm using an ACER travelmate with windows vista and i've gone into computer>properites and tried typing in the number there but no luck.

Thanks to anyone who can help here,
    C.

Computer ID seems far too vague to me. What software is it?

    Agree with previous poster.

But maybe - just right click on my computer - and select properties
You should see things like Computer name etc there.

Although - I don't recall any software ever looking for this - even MS authentication does a self-scan and certifies you. Are you sure about what you are installing?

    Go to control panel,system,system propertys,general,
theres registered to owner name, eg mary jones,
organisation, then , the product id, maybe 20 digit no,
or it could be looking for the cd key,
eg many programs come with cd case, label, with a unique no to validate, that you are using a genuine copy of the program.
many games ask you to put in the cd key before the install completes,
i bought ,downloaded software from a company, website, they emailed me ,the product id key, after i paid them thru my credit card.
eg when i installed ms office,i had to click, authenticate online,
then i put in the 20 digit cd no,from the cd case cover label.

Sorry guys...it's actually the software co (Toontrack) who generate the Computer Id once the programme is installed. I misunderstood the process. I'm up and authorised now - Cheers.

    Thanks for the help :)
