What to do with my UK Reg Car

Guys,

Hope someone can offer advice here. I'v got a 02 UK Reg Passat estate that went through the VRT exemption process, and failed. So now i've got to pay VRT on it. It's not that much according to the calculator. Bout E600. The car is in great cond.

Anyway, i'll be getting a new one here in ireland soon, so what do i do with the passat???
Drive up the north and scrap it - time consuming and a shame really such a nice car
Pay VRT and try to sell it here for a reasonable price? - will cost VRT, NCT and any issues like tyres etc.. too costly

Looking for ideas/options

Sell it on the UK plates (priced to reflect that vrt is due on it), and the buyer can VRT it. Plenty of people do this.

Bring it to a breakers yard see what you can get for it.

Break it down yourself and sell the parts.

Right, i could sell it on UK plates, will DVLA re-register to an irish address?

You would need the original V5 document to sell it here boss. The DVLA wont reregister it to someone here afaik.

plenty do but it is verboten...and seeing as they know about the car and have your details :eek:

I think you might HAVE to pay the VRT if they follow it up. The car is in the country and the VRT is due on entry.

You need to declare it off the road/exported with the DVLA; until you do that you are still liable to them. There's a part on the V5c for it (I had to do that when I brought my car here). The new owner will then need to register it over here AFAIK (mine had already been registered here before so I just had to put back on the old plates and pay tax) and of course they'll need the DVLA cert for that.

Cannot imagine a 2.0 litre petrol Passat estate which needs €600 VRT and tax being very appealing down here unless it going for almost free.
