Went to the dentist for the 1st time since the Berlin wall came down
    2 years ago,
the dentist, who was tres cool, looks at my teeth tells me I need 4 fillings have a "retained root" (like the op) which as it's not giving me any pain is still in place,
then he says very slowly that i need
"A LOT" of cleaning, sends me to the hygenist who turns out to be a South African sadist saying things like
"I surprised your gums arent bleeding more" and "I think next week we're going to see a lot more bleeding"

Been back couple of times since and thankfully didn't had to deal with her.

Got a tooth pulled a year or so ago coz it was rotten as Jade Goody. He also made a míchael of a filling which I need to get done again when I can afford it! Love dentists.

Went early last year but only because half of my tooth came off, hadn't been in over 6 years. Absolutely terrified of the dentist, give me an injection or slice me open any day, but that drill *shudder* I HATE IT!! No matter how much anaesthetic I get, I can ALWAYS feel the drill and feel the pain.

I was hoping to get the half tooth pulled (much easier, only need an injection), but the she-devil of a dentist told me I had to get the mother of all fillings along with another 2 fillings. Like the dentists, they really don't give a f*ck about you. She was a total b**ch. I was litterally shaking, crying and fist clenching in the chair and she was telling me it's not that bad, calm down. I don't know what it is but every time I go to the dentist I am told I need a few fillings. I think it is a money making scam!

I won't go back until I have a serious problem that is unavoidable.

I have been remiss in the past and left it around seven years after leaving school... that cost me a tooth, which was a bugger to get out, he had to saw it down the middle in the end and get it out in two pieces. Seven years later and I went back, just needed a couple of fillings. I now go once every year or so. I don't have any fear if it, it is just something I put off and never get around to...

I had a filling fall out yesterday (along with a chunk of tooth) so in today for a thorough cleaning and examination. €23. It's the second time this filling has fallen out, taking a bit more of the tooth each time, probably a bad sign.

Need to go back Friday for three fillings; the one that fell out, replacement of another that's chipped and has been bugging my tongue for a while, and a small one that I only noticed yesterday. Another 1h30 in the chair, €30 for each of the big ones and €20 for the small one. Dentist seems nice at least, with a nice practice.

I see you're located in India, that explains the pricing. Ten years ago I was paying €45 a filling.

Where was that? That seems very cheap.

Last time I went was a few years ago - €900 for a crown. Still paying it off the credit card.

Nepal, in Kathmandu. The clinic I went to seems to cater to the Nepalese middle class and ex-pats.

I had to go to a local hospital in India, which was an interesting experience. Everyone is waiting outside, one guy lying on the ground hooked up to an IV hanging off a tree. As we are foreigners we are ushered in, in front of everyone, to see the doctor. Consultation and injection free of charge. They are stretched and have very little but do what they can irrespective of your citizenship.

I go once a year now.

Here I only have to pay 18 euro, the rest is covered by social security, and the dentist cleans the teeth as well for that. Last year I got 2 x-rays, a cleaning and a filling for 50 euro.

I find it's a lot less traumatic to go often and not have big things to get done, than leave it and have tons of painful crap done.

Generally once every 2 years, sometimes more often if I need something done, most of the time that works out grand for me.

Went about 8 months ago, got a tooth pulled cost 80 euro

I had to get 7 fillings done last year....hadn't been at the dentist in years.
Go to get my teeth cleaned every 6 months and a check-up once a year. Floss every day now...
Not going through all those filling again, not to mention the expense

What did they have to do to get it ready for the Root Canal?

No, I hate dentists and I'm too poor anyway. I need at least one filling, I've a huge chunk gone out of one of my teeth.

    How much was the bleaching?

Are your knashers still whiter after 6 months?

Got a wisdom tooth out last week, I expected it to be an ordeal but the tooth came out easy, 2nd one gone now.

One thing that annoyed me was the dentist saying, "you've got really nice teeth..... For a smoker" .. "your gums are in good condition.... For a smoker" What does that mean? Are my teeth good or bad, stop sugar coating everything and just give it to me straight.

Your teeth are fine.... Its the gums that'll have to come out.:D

You might enter a world of pain if that broken tooth decides to act the b0llix.

I know, i just can't go to the dentist. If I ever do have to get it out, I'll have to get anaesthitised (or however you spell it)

I was told when I was 21, that i needed 2 impacted wisdom teeth out. Like a chicken s**t, I left it till I was 36, and literally spitting bits of one of them out:o. Just had it in my head that I didn't want a general anaesthetic, so just kept putting it off. As it was, I got them out separately, within a couple of weeks of each other, with local anaesthetic. Had bad experience with second one coming out, but great relief to have it done. Reminds me, I really should make an appointment again. The cost puts me off:(

I usually go every 6 months.
I get a letter telling me I'm due a check-up and I just go with it.
I'm very awkward about cancelling appointments though.

I had the top two wisdom teeth taken out in my early twenties.

I still have the bottom two in there growing arseways, getting them both removed is now part of the 'plan' I have with the dentist.

I kept both of the top ones after they were removed and gave them to my girlfriend at the time who is now my wife. (How romantic)

She lost them, and I am not too impressed about it!

I was at the dentist last month. I was there a year previous to that appointment, so I just went for the check-up this time and it's the first time in my life that I've gone to the dentist and I haven't needed to get work done.

I do have a really big fear of the dentist, but I trust the dentist I have now and having to get a tooth taken out last year means I actually go for check-ups now to prevent any of my other teeth rotting. But I have a medical card, if I didn't then I probably wouldn't go unless I was in agony.

i dunno - tooth was badly infected so she cleaned the infection out or something... only took about 20 minutes so wasn't a big job or anything

Missed the bi-annual cleanings for 2 years and then went back for a checkup recently. Christ, it was like going into school after being suspended for a week! Talk about dirty looks!

I hate the way dentists have become salespeople now too. As she was finishing the checkup, she was explaining to me about afew cosmetic improvements I could do, how much they would cost, easy payment plans etc etc. Then when I mentioned I used a certain type of sensitive toothpaste she blanked me, pulled out a tube of Colgate from behind her back, and gave me a marketing speil complete with a great fake smile. It was more like a trip to a used car place than a medical checkup.
