Citizens info have told me that based on my education history I am eligible for free fees.

So I phoned my County Council to ask how to apply and they tell me that it is means tested on my parents income and I need to complete the grant application form.

My parents earn above the threshold, so I checked studentfinance website, which tells me that the free fees scheme is based on residency, education, nationality.

So do my college automatically know that I am entitled to avoid paying the big fees??
Or do I have to apply the county council via the grant application and wait to be told that my parents earn too much??

I'm so confused, I dont mind paying the 2000euro registration fee but I cant afford the big fees. :/:/

Yeah free fees is based on residency, nationality etc. The college will upon registration ask if you meet the criteria and then apply for the fees on your behalf if you do. You'll just have to pay the ~€2000 you mentioned.

You don't apply for free tuition fees - once you are eligible for them your college sorts them out

    Here is the eligibility criteria

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
