There are no wimmin on the netternet.

    Fact.

That said, if you've wandered in here by accident there's a knitting, babies, gossip & clothes forum somewhere around here.

...I should go... :-) I've obviously wandered into the wrong forum. Damn my tiny feminine brain... Oh well, back to my knitting.

I'll have a condensed version in my column in Heat magazine next week :p.

(Also in FHM in the interest of gender equality :))

Luckily I have a subscription to both so.;)

    I can't figure it out.

It's Ireland's biggest forum, surely it should be 50:50?

    Any ideas?

The same reason politics are dominated by males. If it's not clothes or makeup, then women are not interested in talking/debating it :D :pac:

I think you will find for men that is that it is commonly referred to as the group homose*ual stage.

No we will recruit more women.

This is like the government with their gender quotas, which I think is a load of shíte tbh. If someone is good enough for a job they should get it, regardless of what is or isn't between their legs.

Sure the women have the ladies lounge anyways - that is one place that is definatly not dominated by males. He'd be out of his mind to go wandering in there - a bit like any lad who wants to appear on Loose women.....

I think it's due to the old stereotype that some women believe that says "nerdy" things like sci-fi, computers etc. are a male preserve. They see the internet as nerdy and thus avoid it except for occasions when it's necessary like booking flights or checking e-mail.
I know a few women who can't understand the concept of surfing the internet recreationally. They also tend to be the ones who do stereotypically "girly" things and I'm equally unable to fathom their interest in the romantic misadventures of individuals who fulfil the minimum requirements of being a celebrity.

Are you ****ing serious? those few women you know, must be the old dears you make tea for, and listen to their stories, and hold their hand, and promise them an enternal life of happiness...

"Facebook!" A womans new greatest weapon against all mankind!! ;)

A shoes forum would boost participation.

Like I say, it's only a few of the women I know. Most use the internet in what I would consider a fairly normal fashion: necessary stuff, facebook and some surfing, like most men I know too.

But there a few who, perhaps outside of a bit of facebooking, spend very little time online, and probably have never heard of boards.

There's plenty of men are like that too, but from anecdotal experience, more men seem to spend greater time online, and in a more invested fashion (eg. posting in forums instead of just doing a little chatting on facebook) than women.
There's not a great discrepancy, but there is some difference.

Women already live in a fantasy world. They have no need for the internet.

Moo you seem to be true democrat and I respect you for that but there is still a hint of sexism in your posts although I think it is unintentional to me you are coming across as a nice guy.

Women have smaller hands too so maybe the they are just more prone to wrist strain than guys are (no jokes please ) from the typing.

The Ladies Lounge is full of women.

And is possibly the scariest place you could ever lurk in on the internet.

The reason for the gender imbalance on online fora such as Boards can actually be traced back to pre-christian times................... probably.

Thanks, and I apologise if I seem a bit sexist, it's certainly unintentional. Who knows, maybe I can't help being a little bit sexist automatically as I can only really see things from a male perspective.
I'm really just going by the people I know: most use the internet to what I would consider a fairly normal extent (and I'm not really counting facebook as it's so ubiquitous), but the ones who use the internet a lot are more often male, and the ones with little to no online presence are more often female, but it's not a sizeable difference in numbers.
Maybe I just need to know better people :).

Anyway, it's funny the OP's brought this up, as I was surprised by the number of women on boards when I first started lurking, maybe just because I was expecting it to be mostly men!
