X Men First Class, liked the movie but ever since then Irish cinemas can fcuk right off as far as Im concerned. Youd think with the prices they charge they could have someone at least pop their heads in to make sure noone is acting the b*llox and people are enjoying the movie. Some prick behind me rustling a bag, when I turned my head and back again it got worse. Four kids talking and ****eing out of them for the entire movie (One of them was about three years old . . WHY ! ! ) , another ass*hole messing with his phone.

I cant wait until one by one these rip off merchants are on RTE News ****eing out of them they have to close as theyre getting no customers. And it WILL happen. . .pubs anyone ?

    GOD BLESS BLU RAYS ! ! ! !

Now you just sound like a whinger. An ill-informed one.

Nobody's forcing you to pay for snacks at the cinema.

    And no. It won't happen.

    I don't think it's a rip off at all.

The cinema make very little (if anything) from your ticket purchase as they have to pay for the movie.

The only way that they make any profit is from the food. If the cinemas didn't charge so much for the food then there would be no cinema as they would not make a profit.

The whole subject has been done to death, he could have searchd and found the other thread that was done recently, and upon reading he would have realised they have to charge the prices they do for the most part, and probably wouldnt have made this thread.

    :)

Or, if they sold the snacks at a reasonable price a hell of a lot more people would buy them, thereby increasing their profit margins. The old method may have worked well for them in CelticTigerland as too many people just spent money without thinking. But for the foreseeable future people are going to be more and more money conscious. Cinema traditionally does well in a recession but only as long as it's considered a good value night out. But it's hardly good value when a deal of the day voucher will get you a 3 course meal with wine for less than the amount in the OP.

If cinemas want to survive they are going to have to adjust, and fast. Especially as now most people have big screen tvs, and dvd releases generally happen within 17 weeks of cinema releases. (Not to mention all the "greyer" ways people have of acquiring movies. When there is little to be gained for your limited money you won't spend it.

we all know why prices are high in cinemas. movie companies take like 80 percent of boxoffice opening weekend of a movie. As week by week goes. Their percentage goes down. so cineams sell over priced consessions to make money.

but that still doesnt change the fact the cinema business is a rip off!

It costs me 6 quid to go to the cinema. 4/5.10 for a ticket depending on where I go, and snacks from aldi. Job done.

The cinema nearest me ( Liffey valley) is an overpriced dump, I go into the city for my viewing pleasure.

    Heard that too.

    Anyway back on topic.
For the service we get in our local cinema and the conditions of it amid other things, the money they charge (which is high) is indeed a rip-off.
I know Wolfe Tone will agree.

Sure they go to Dublin for a stag night on Good Friday. Everywhere is shut so they wander around looking glum for 30 minutes. Then someone suggests they get a train so they can buy drink. They get on a train, get really drunk, pass out and wake up in the back end of nowhere where they are forced to participate in the blessing of the graves and cross kissing due to a hilarious misunderstanding. Somehow they lead the locals to believe the statues are moving, cueing a repeat of the 80s moving statues hysteria. The boys have a madcap adventure somehow culminating in the destruction of a giant in-store display of Easter eggs.

Then when all is settled some other local asks why they got on a train and didn't just drink in their hotel residents bar. Facepalms all around.

I thought I had the 3d movie thing cracked when I acquired a pirated 3d film and got the 3d glasses for all the family and then put it on a hd tv wow what a dissappointment.

Note: It was 3 years ago.

I hope they set in in concrete and dump it in the sea, the world does not need a repeat of that Godawful, unfunny rubbish.

OP IS CLEARLY AN IDIOT....what moron buys food at a cinema?....i never buy grub + i LOATHE popcorn eating fools chomping through the damn movie!!!!
I usually wait a week to see new movies, by then the kids, idiots and sundry other scumbags have came and went.

Then i sit all by my lonesome a soak up the visuals, nothing better then an empty cinema. Trying to impress some chick with coke and popcorn won't get you the shift, just a depleated bank account.

Add midweek to that and you have a great chance of perfect viewing conditions.

It's about the same price in NZ, relative to salaries and things. Night at the cinema for two costs about $50.

They do have Half-price Tuesdays though, where the tickets are $9 instead of $18. I tend to go on those nights. They also have 1 film per week that the tickets are $9 - it's usually a film that it is in last week of being showed.

Do any cinemas in Ireland do half-price nights? I reckon it would do really well.

The charming couple one aisle over attempting coitus while myself and the wife attempted to watch predators (her suggestion god bless her) during the middle of the day 2.5 weeks after opening weekend beg to differ.
