I wonder if the banks are being relied on to back this venture,if they are i will close my accounts with them,it looks like pie in the sky to me, and is not geared to the working people for their support unless they get jobs,
theres enough racing tracks for dogs and horses in ireland, and 2 or 3 dance halls,im wondering if it will ever get of the ground.
would be great if it happened to be a success though, time will tell

No he will not be relying on the banks for funding, a lot of influential business men, particularly in the horse racing industry are backing him. Having brought out the racing tracks in Limerick junction, Clonmel and thurles and also the greyhound tracks in Thurles and Clonmel we will see the accumulation of all these tracks into one arena. From living in the area of the proposed arena it is clear that it is going to get the go ahead with over 70 million spent buying out the surrounding areas, and if it doesn't go ahead it is going to be one massive farm.

Hopefully it will be a huge success, but I believe his planning for the future in a decade or two with this, not the immediate future.

Clonmel greyhound stadium has not been bought out. I have a shareholder here beside me who would know if it had been.

Shatter has ruled out the Casino part of the Venue going ahead. Can't see them building any of the rest without the Casino. Alot of money spent there already though.

plenty jobs created while it's built but what next.............
another ghost town:( after it closes the other tracks mentioned.

las vagas works cos there's a sufficient sized cohort of the population who go there. it's for gambling and whoring to be blunt...and drugging.

ireland isn't big enough to sustain it.

This wont go ahead without the casino licience,Alan Shatter says there may be moderate size liciences given out,but doubt if that would be enough for them. There was some Austin fella on the "last word" tonight stuttering and stammering, sounded like a Lowry acolyte with no clue about legislation but kept stuttering about 1000 jobs for Tipperary.Matt Cooper says their researchers are being referred back to Michael Lowry from Richard Quirkes office for comment on the project,is our public representitives just employed as pr spokesmen for big buissness men.

So Lowry and Co. had their plans shattered!

Has Lowry made any statement about this yet?

If anyone heard the Pat Kenny show today, I wonder was it naughty to have Pat Shortt imitating a Chamber of Commerce guy from Thurles. It was a good comic turn, obviously new material.

Does this mean that there is a chance of the Equestrian Centre and Concert hall going ahead beside the Limerick University?
It would be a wonderful place for it.
    See the proposal on http://www.ntpsale.com
    It looks fab.

Have you a source for this?

I was told that Austin Broderick was still saying very recently it's still going ahead but on a smaller scale to begin with.

    Hmmmmm .....

I think the Tipperary Venue is belly up ok. I was told that there are negotations ongoing for the sale of The National Equestrian Centre beside the University of Limerick.
That is the one I asked about some time ago www.ntpsale.com
I hope it goes ahead as it would be great for Limerick and Shannon.

"The Dublin Pool and Juke Box Co, of which Mr Quirke is a director with his wife Anne, ran up a bill of 803,485 euros for under-declaration of VAT.

The businessman is also behind the arcade Dr Quirkey's Good Time Emporium on O'Connell Street and was a major backer of plans to build a super-casino in Tipperary"

    Back from the dead...
An application has gone in to modify the planning for the "Tipperary Venue"..still includes a casino which i thought was the reason it was stalled

Wow, that is some haul of Planning Permission for the County Council to agree to.

18 hole golf course, Horse racing track, Dog racing track, Large Grandstand, hotel, big casino and enough parking for 5,700 vehicles!

My favourite bit in the application is for the Chapel!
" Relocate permitted chapel build. & park. c.140m to the
    nthwest; "

Just think of all the classy weddings that'll take place there.
    Build it, I say!
Build it now, Dr. Quirkey, and we'll apply for Retention later!!

From what I recall planning was granted but project was held up as they couldn't get a licence for a casino of the size proposed.

Yes. The Gaming legislation would have to be changed and that hasn't been done. Also, I think the proposed 15,000 seater hall was shot down by an Bord Pleanala.

I wonder is he about to make a start on it, or is it just to keep the planning permission alive?

I never thought of that..probably trying to keep it live.
