CNN have launched a guide of things NOT to do if visiting Dublin, which include

Coppers which is a “meatmarket” and “hell on earth”. It says that those in search of the “dirty singles scene” might like to pay a visit though

DON’T get your picture taken with Molly Malone: Instead tourists are nudged in the direction of the statues of Phil Lynott or James Joyce for photo ops.

DON’T call an Irish person British: CNN advises that tourists should brush up on their Irish history and be sure to know that the Republic of Ireland is not part of the UK.

DON’T forget about Dublin’s past: The article advises that Dublin has plenty of “local pre-history” to explore and recommends visiting the National Museum of Ireland to see the bog people, and taking a trip on the Viking Splash Tour, if only to roar at unsuspecting pedestrians.

DON’T go to the St. Patrick’s Day parade

So what other advice can we add?

About coppers, my mate said he'd never go in there again due to to smell, he said he was almost sick due to the smell..

    1. Don't go to XXI's (that's 21's, right? :P)

    2. Don't hold up my bus trying to get the driver to take notes. THEY DON'T TAKE NOTES.

    3. Don't bother trying to speak the one sentence of Irish you know with the locals. We don't care.

    4. Don't ask me if I know your great aunt Mary from Mayo. I don't.

    5. Don't bring your suitcase upstairs on the 16a.

    6. Don't ask people where the "spike" is.

    7. Don't take up half the Ha'penny Bridge trying to take a picture during busy hours.

You are destined for a serious dose of VD. How random will that feel?

Don't think that once you've drank your token pint of Guinness you've sampled all the Irish booze industry has to offer. We have a few more mainstream drinks and many more lesser-known drinks that are as nice as, or nicer than, the black stuff.

I agree about the parade. The place seems to bring out even more skangers than usual.

I blame 'De Luis', the skangers used to be corralled in Tallaght watching it on TV, but now the Red Line provides free and frequent transport into the heart of the city for all sorts of undesirables…..

So my advice would have to be, if you find yourselves on the red line, don't open a map or a copy of the Irish Times, use a copy of De Star as camoflage until you safely reach your destination.

All this thread signals to me is that we as a nation need to get off our high horse. We should be friendly to tourists, soon tourism will be our only source of income! :-)

fukcing tabloids, what cnn actually said about coppers was
Those in search of the dirty singles scene might entertain the idea of hitting Copper Face Jacks -- a local institution, described in disgusted tones by my Dubliner friends as "a meatmarket," "full of nurses and gardaí (Irish police)," and "hell on earth." But, you know, wildly popular with the locals.
    You've been officially warned.

    I like point;
Most pubs close at 11:30 p.m. on weeknights and 1a.m. on weekends. Something about curbing alcoholism. Well done.
    Well done indeed.

    TBH, all solid advice.

No mention of token-irish-leprechaun-guy at the top of Grafton St

Is he Irish? I always assumed that he was some Romanian trying it from a different angle...

Spend as little time in Dublin as you can manage. Head for Galway or Cork as soon as possible.

    Whats Coppers?

    I've never heard of it:confused:

It's a hell on earth nightclub with a dirty singles scene. Located simultaneously in Dublin and Portlaoise.

    Someone should franchise it.
