Stretching cartilage?

Years ago I got the top of my ear pierced with a gun. I am fed up with a hoop ear ring. Can cartilage be stretched and will it shrink again? I was thinking I would like to be able to put a bar through it, maybe 2.6 mil or 3, nothing more. Is it possible?

It's possible yeah, unsure if it will settle back down though. I suggest going in .5mm jumps instead of 1mm jumps, easier on your body and really lessens the chances of cracking your cartilage. Or you could just get it dermal punched but you'd be stuck with the 3mm hole
