5 hour wait between train arriving and ferry leaving??

    Hi

    I will be taking the ferry from Rosslare-Cherbourg on the 7th July-the 21.30 sailing. I will be travelling down from dublin by train. From looking at the Irish rail website one train arrives in Rosslare at 21.30 and another at 4.30- so this means I will have a five hour wait in Rosslare! This seems crazy, am I missing something?? Surely they can;t expect train passengers to wait this long?

    it's worse coming the other way, you can see the train leaving as you sail in.

    Irish Rail actively pursue a policy of not connecting with ferries

    Under the new timetable there will be a train arriving at 19:30 into Rosslare which will be a far better connection.

    As for the other direction - I think that I have provided in that thread what is a fairly conclusive explanation of why that happens. No it's not good at all, but I don't think that there is much that can be done until more rolling stock arrives.

    Thanks for the reply-that's unbelievable! I suppose I could cycle down (I am going to France for a week of cycling after all).

    there should be room for it in the luggage compartment under the bus i would have thought?

    Bicycles, prams and non-folding childrens’ pushchairs or buggies will be carried only if sufficient accommodation is available; they must be placed in the luggage compartment or other designated area of the vehicle and are subject to a charge as determined by Bus Éireann from time to time.

    If you are going to bring the bike, get off in Rosslare Strand and spend the afternoon there. Its much nicer around there to kill time. Then head on to the harbour. If your cycling in France, I'd expect you would make this journey in no more than 30 minutes. You'll have to spend some time on the main road though.

    You can bring bikes on Bus Eireann busses, it used to be a fiver extra in punts.

    I'd ask wexford bus and see what their story is, might be faster/cheaper/better

    If BÉ have a privateer on they time you're goin, you may get the bike on for free.
