Trimming DVD footage

Hi there. im trying to trim footage I have on a DVD using RealPlayerTrimmer.
the DVD footage is a VOB file. when I go to trim the footage with RealPlayer Trimmer it wont let me trim. A notification comes up saying
''File Parsing Error, The file is not supported by RealPlayer Trimmer Application''

im trying to trim the footage into short video's.

would I Have to convert the footage from the VOB file to another file that would be supported by the RealPlayer Trimmer?

You can use MPEG Streamclip to open and play most movie formats including MPEG files or transport streams; edit them with Cut, Copy, Paste, and Trim; set In/Out points and convert them into muxed or demuxed files, or export them to QuickTime, AVI, DV and MPEG-4 files with more than professional quality, so you can easily import them in a DVD authoring tool, and use them with many other applications or devices.

The software is free.

Another choice is Mpg2Cut2.

Both the above should handle .VOB files. There shouldn't be a need to transcode\convert your original footage.
