What toys did your parents, say "NO WAy"

Okay,

I'm an elderly man. (Show some respect you young whippersnappers.)

They didn't want to spend their free time in A&E.

So, Bows+Arrows were out. Likewise Spud guns.

Chemistry sets seemed educational, until you saw what iron filings could do to a baby's skin.

And no parent wants to spend Christmas day, hunting for batteries for a potter's wheel while also trying to save the youngest child from burns that could only have come from an Air-Strike on Gaza.

So, younger AHers, what's off-limits in this day and age?

The only toys i was not allowed was the ones my parents could not afford.

As for a potters wheel. I came from the northside of dublin. Not a hope would i use this and a chemistry set was used to make heroin by the big boys.

Edit. Super soakers were not out when i was young but we did use to soak babys nappies in water and fire them from the top of the flats.

My parents were not well off. I just got used to not asking for specific toys. To this day I don't ask for stuff for Christmas or birthdays.

I wasn't allowed boys toys. One christmas i wanted a fire engine lego set. What did i get? A girly box of lego to build my own home, (cause obviously girls should grow up to be in the home).

Another christmas i wanted a blue/black bike. I got the most girliest pink bike. I hate pink.

I had alot of sad christmases.

Once I had a little bit of cop on I basically asked for a few things each a bit cheaper than the last one, they went as high up the list as they could afford. Never was the kind of kid that wanted something just cause everyone else had it though and in fariness I got an insane amount of mileage out of lego.

After an incident with a scalpel and my face I was no longer allowed science sets.

Other than that, not much. Made a sweet Bow and Arrow once but my dad insisted on putting corks on the end.

It's MAD the mileage you can get out of building blocks! My son not quiet on lego yet, but he loves all the duplo blocks! He's only 2 and he will play with them for hours!

OT, I got pretty much everything I wanted and a bike every couple of years. Sweet. Then I was banned off the bikes and given no more, for my third concussion in three years, when an experiment with homemade chopper forks went badly wrong. Hitting the ramp was probably a step too far in hindsight

My parents would only say no if the toy was too expensive, but I had a bit of cop on so would rarely ask for anything like that.

I was big into art and craft kits when I was younger, as another poster said, so it wasn't too hard to keep me happy!

The only thing I asked for every Christmas for about 5 years running was a Mr Frosty. You know, that snowman you crush ice in and add a flavouring to make a drink? "Mr Frosty he's such fun - he makes drinks for everyone!" (Still remember the ad..) My parents always forgot or just ignored my requests - not too sure why I didn't get it when I was a kid! But to my absolute delight, I got one for my 21st birthday!!
