Just started Super Mario Bros. 3 on the GBA, its great for filling 10 or 15 minutes here and there. the levels are waaaaaaaay shorter than I remember them back in 1991 but its certainly challenging, its the only Mario game I've played and never managed to complete.

Played some more Gamera 2000 today and then tried out that LSD game on the PS1. Bizarre. Then the PS2 came out to play and played the bouncer. Quite liking it so far but the combat feels slow and heavy.

Punch Out on NES, SNES and Wii. Only boxing game I really like. They should really make a 3D version of it for the 3DS.

I love the politically incorrect national sterotypes. It's like an episode of South Park :D

Every time I set up a nes emulator on a pc for friends the first game I put on is Punch-Out. Love the game. Never bet Mr. Dream though :(

The trick to Mr. Dream is staying alive long enough. After a while his style changes and he is much easier. It's just getting to that point without getting smeared on the canvas is so hard!

You should try to find a version with Mike Tyson as the boss instead for the laugh.

I hear Mike's now going to endorse a certain offensive Japanese PC game.....sorry.:pac:

Finished Ys 1 and a good bit into Ys 2 now. Ys 1 was great fun and highly enjoyable but Ys 2 is a massive improvement. Really enjoying this series of games.

Playing Ys 3 or Falghana. Just started - was really enjoying it (like Ys 7 I'm loving the high speed combat) and then the first boss showed up and the difficulty curve shot up vertically! I was on a bus so couldn't give it my full attention, but looking like a tricky game. Ys Seven took much longer to ramp up to harder levels.

It does have the most awesome feature I've ever seen in an options menu - selectable BGM from three different versions of the game i.e. chiptunes, more advanced chiptunes or orchestral :) It almost makes up for the lack of a Japanese language option!

Easy to find, just search for mike tysons punch out,mr dream was used in 90 onwards due to licencing rights expired

From talking to one of the guys at XSeed he said that Seven is a very easy game compared to the rest of the series and Felghana is a very tough game. You'll need to level up before the bosses but it doesn't take that long because Ys is a series were one level makes a big difference and also due to how fast and fun killing things in the game is it's not boring and relatively quick.

Ys Chronicles has the choice of PC-9801 chip music, the windows rerelease music or the orchestrated music for the PSP game :)

Was it the licensing rights or the whole rape scandal, because I heard it was the rape thing?

offical story was licence, wasnt charged+convicted 1991/92 but there being numberous debates, maybe your right, not missing much anyway in dream version

I'd say it was just the license not getting renewed but not renewed over the controversy. I just heard it on retronauts so no concrete proof.

Started playing Earthbound earlier and put 2 or 3 hours into it on my Max Arcade setup connected to the TV. Exited out of the emulator and went back in later to see none of my saves were recorded. Not sure I have it in me to go back and start from scratch yet...

Check the emu settings, although it should save to a default directory.
    That's a strange one.

Gave Super Mario Sunshine a spin for a couple of hours last night. Its really just a bit strange, the FLUDD mechanic isn't particularly compelling and as a setting Delfino Isle is frankly a bit dull and samey.

I never liked the GC controller but combined with the wonky and awkward camera it makes control very difficut, mario regulalry leaps over platforms and its often difficult to tell which way the water is shooting.

Havng said all that I do still want to carry on and get into it a bit, some of the ideas that were later refined for SMG are present and it is an interesting deviation from the usual Mario gameplay.

Don't really like the GC controller at all.
In that game it seemed to damage the experience, couple with the camera issues.

+1 on the GC controller. I never got why people loved it so much? Always felt very clunky to me.

For me the GC controller is wrong in just about every way for me, the triggers are just weird, the sticks are flimsy and travel to fast and the button lay out (quite intentionally) makes it less convenient to use any button but A.

There is a reason why the cruciform button layout has become so popular, because its simple and realy works, glad to see Nintendo are returning to it wth the Wii U.

The analog sticks don't seem to last on them either. I've come across more that are broken than working.

Why has the GC controller gone from being regarded as one of the best ever made to being regarded so negatively?? Did people actually have a GC when they were released. Always found the GC controller to be great. Not without it's problems but it was comfortable to hold and the analogue stick felt great.
