My teacher said he wouldn't advise ruling out the border because you don't have to and it takes up time.

It looks neater. Increases my chances of getting all the marks that are going for how neat you are.

By not doing it, chances are reduced you see.....

I did my JC last year and I know that you wont get any extra marks for putting a border on the sheet, so there's no point in making more work for yourself and taking up valuable time that could be spent on getting your questions done fully. If you have the time at the end then yes, border the sheets.....

I thought it was harder that most years. I did 1,2,3 and 5. The shape in Q5 was very strange.

Q 5 was weird, but i'm hoping for near to full marks. Q1 looked complex, but it wasn't too bad. Q2 Was fine. Q6? FECK YOU.

Not on the OL paper you didn't :p

I was all like: "Ah hellz yeah! "

The gap between the two levels, particularly in TG and a few others (maths and irish) is massive!

Hope you all did well tho ;)

What % of marks go for neatness? I don't know the official term =P

My T square loved to make smudges on the page, and eraser seemed to only worsen the effect....

Also, I always forget to use more than one pencil! I just used different levels of pressure on a HB pencil! Hopefully an A is still possible :)

Its 10 marks for "presentation" on each question, So 10% when taken into consideration with Section A

Oh yeah, did everyone clearly label the question number that they were doing on each sheet?

It's called draughtsmanship, normally about 7 marks per long question which is 10%.

I did 1,2,5 and 6, question 5 was a tough shape, however I finished at 12  but then realized I didn't do surface S in question 1, and had a border to do, so I was still drawing up until the end. My drawings were very dirty but I'll live.

Overall I thought it was slightly harder than other years but was fine all round.

Draughtsmanship! I couldn't remember that, my teacher said it before, cheers ;)

So that's 90% for me? Nah, probably a bit less, mid 70's to early 80's I think. I hope!

In higher level the draughtmanship is 7/70, but in ordinary level it's 12/70 per question.

I did ordinary and was finished with an hour to go. As Phantom already mentioned, the gap between levels is quite remarkable. Ordinary level is pretty ridiculous, not even remotely challenging and I haven't done anything in TG in 3 years.

Someone in honours should be able to tell me the answer to these no problem...

    http://www.examinations.ie/archive/exampapers/2011/JC048GLP000EV.pdf
    Link to short questions.

5: Do I just take the length of the minor axis, place compass on point O and swing the distance to locate focal points?

11: Are the commands 1. Circle 2. Hatch

    13: Angle B is 45

I think anyone with a decent month done in TG could do OL paper easily, I found most of it to be common logic (figuring out what a surface development would look like etc.) rather than the HL paper, which requires you to remember quite a lot with the method in which you do questions etc.
Passing shouldn't be too difficult if you did all the questions, that's definitely 40% (even if they weren't finished).

I'm no TG pro by any shot, as I did pass!
Credit to ya for going for the HL paper. ;)

It's 35 out of 70, you should pass if you set it up and a bit more. For example in the rotation question if you've drawn the flap in a normal position, drawn the end elevation, projected a few lines over, and gotten the outline of the shape you're well passed, as my teacher always says "2 half questions are better than one full one."

Its 10marks/70 on the section B questions for draughtmanship, the marking scheme is on www.examinations.ie which is a little more than 10% me thinks!! There are ZERO marks for lining out your sheet, in fact it will probably cost you marks because of the time it takes. And as for the lad who has a bad tech graph teacher and wasn't shown the CAD commands, read the book u ***********

I almost forgot i did it just as the examiner was getting the envelope, you lose a mark out of 10 for draughting and neatness if u forgot

and i'm just after realising i forgot to do the true shape in Q1, thats 2 easy percent down the train but overall i did better than in the mocks, and i got an a in the mocks

I must say I was expecting something really difficult. I had always heard that Technical Graphics was "close to impossible" and although I've always been quite good at it I expected it to be very challenging. At first i thought that would be true as I skipped one of the short questions and struggled with two of them but I did fourteen out of the fifteen so hopefully I will get all the marks in that. I anxiously opened section B and I was pleasantly surprised that question 1, 2 and 5, I felt, were extremely easy. I intended to do Q6 but I was taken back by it at first. Thankfully though it was much easier than I thought. Out of all the long questions the only bit I struggled with was the curve RS which was a portion of ABC but I didn't even find that too hard. So to summarise I did 1, 2, 5 and 6, I thought the only difficult bit on the long questions was the portion of the parabola ABC in Q6 and overall the exam was way easier than I expected.

So is anybody else doing DCG next year? Hopefully I am (i asked to do the class but currently it's full and the secretary is checking if I could still do it or if somebody is going to change out of it) and I'm looking forward to it. And if anybody currently doing it is reading (and they liked TG) what do you think of it compared to Technical Graphics?
