PS3 not reading discs

    Just looking for advice on this, folks.

    I inherited a PS3 there that works for the most part, but just doesnt read discs. I tested with a DVD and music CD and, while the little icon up the top right start rotating as if it was trying to read the disc, there was no noise from the drive itself. Nothing spins up.

    I'm hoping its simply a laser problem, rather than a completely dead bluray drive. So, can anyone give me a few steps to try to confirm this, and point me in the right direction of fixing it, or buying a cheap enough replacement?

    I got mine cheap for some reason, its ebay all the way really.
    Expect to pay around 40-50 euro
